Default Uberti Remington 1890 clone question...

Picked up and handled my "new" Uberti cowboy revolver. First thing I noticed was the hammer took a lot of effort to cock, not sure if this is normal for these types of revolvers. Since I am mechanically impaired, would it make sense for local, qualified gunsmith to see if some minor tweaking would improve the hammer pull? The trigger breaks clean at about two pounds, but cocking with one hand is a bear. Thanks in advance.

If you bought it from a big box store or a LGS, they should be willing to exchange it, or send it back to the manufacturer for repair. Regardless, there's something wrong. I've owned a Uberti Cattleman, and it didn't have that issue. If you turn it over to some Bubba who thinks he's a gunsmith, the result could invalidate the warranty, and result in a piece of junk that you're stuck with.

Got it used at a gun show. So I guess based on the responses Gary the expert (he is good at what he does) will be called soon. Might just need a little TLC. Thanks for the help.

The mainspring is strong on my 1875. There is a replacement spring, lightened you can buy. The gun itself is easy to detail strip, so you might start there to ensure there is no rust binding things up.

Watch out for the grips, though. Decent replacements seem to be very hard to come by.

I have the uberti birds head 3.5" 357. My hammer goes back smoothly but after about 100 rounds the cylinder stop no longer comes up to lock the cylinder in place so back to the store tomorrow.

How long did you have it? Has quality dropped since Beretta took over? Seems most video reviews of the Uberti line have been positive.

I bought it brand new about 3 weeks ago. It seemed like a solid gun. It's a lot of fun to shoot and is accurate. O well it will be fixed but another thing I noticed the screws shoot loose including the ejector rod housing one which is a pain.

Thanks for the loose screw info...Loctite (not the hard edge stuff) will be on my list.

Well the Uberti is in the hands of gunsmith Gary...will keep you posted. Guy is usually backlogged so may take a while. Thanks for all the info.
