Default Ruger Brass Grip Frames...Yea Or Nay

Looking for new firearms to collect, as I have found and owned so many great Smith&Wessons over the past 40+ years, I have concentrated on collecting old pre-1973 unconverted Ruger Single Action. Making it even more challenging is locating Factory Ruger Brass Grip frames, and the now non imported aftermarket Sambar Stag Grips to go along with my Rugers. I was lucky to have found yet another Factory Brass Grip frame, and a perfect set of aftermarket Sambar Stags for use on a Ruger Blackhawk. I won't be shooting these Rugers, so I want to dress up the ones I do have. I know we have a lot of Ruger fans here on the Forum, so it would be interesting to hear comments, and possibly see some other Brass Grip frame Rugers you might have. The top revolver is a 9MM/357 Blackhawk, and the bottom is a 44 Magnum Super Blackhawk..

I admit the brass does not float my boat, but that is a personal appearance prejudice, not a functional one.

I love "Brassys" but like you discovered them late and unlike you do not have the gun budget to collect them. I consider myself fortunate to have an Old Army that left the Ruger factory as a Brassy. Old Armys are the most common factory Brassy. I've read that after Ruger decided to discontinue offering brass frames as an accessory they got rid of the rest of them by installing them on Old Armys. If I am lucky enough to stumble on an affordable brass frame I'll add it to my stainless Old Army.

All the brass frames I've seen, both factory and aftermarket, have been Dragoons. That makes them a natural match up with long barrel Super Blackhawks. Firing standard 240 grain magnums the square back of the trigger guard has never touched my fingers. However, I'd move those beautiful India stag Dragoon grips to a revolver that kicks less. Bark that coarse is bound to interfere with the magnum rolling up in your hand. While they look appropriate on the .357/9mm they'd look even more classic on Old Army.

[I should charge a dollar for providing a reason why you need another gun. ]

Yea on the Bearcats, nay on the Blackhawks. But I do love those Mag-Na-Port Blackhawk customs with the two toned finish and silver grip frames. I will say the brass frames are enhanced by stag grips, the two together are very complimentary.
