MR73
So, I saw a MR73 today, 4 inch barrel, rubbers, about 85%.
They had 850 on it. Good price?

Unless it's got significant issues, yes. Most that appear on auction sites like Gunbroker start well into four digits.
They have a quite legendary status, and at least as far as their ability to withstand a steady diet of full-power .357 loads is concerned, it appears well-deserved; that's what they were designed for.

The ones on GB either go for 850, or 1300 it seems. So I would say actually be able to handle it before buying it would certainly be an added bonus.
I would pay 850 for one in a second.

When was the last time you saw one for sale?
If you want it and are happy with one in that condition get it.
If I wanted a MR73 I'd hold out for a minty one.
(I said minty )

On GB there are a few for sale, search Manurhin mr73. Seems 850 is about what a well used one goes for. The 3" bbl ones go for 1000 or more. Make sure the timing is OK, very strong gun. Allenschisel on GB is Allens Armory and his description is spot on and he fires them to check for function. I was lucky to find a 4" with adjustable sights from Allen, most are service sights. I had mine re-blued to look nice. Great shooter.
The nicer ones go for 2500-3000 with service sights. The one on GB with the extra cyl in 9mm will probably go over 3000. Nice ones with adjustable sights go closer to 3500 & over. Allens Armory sells new ones for 3000.
See if they will come down on the price a little, search them and see how good they are. Larry

I had no clue that they were easily available. 3K Wow! Maybe not so easily.
I'll rethink my previous post.

The gun is probably gone by now but the seller is a forum member, and I do know how to contact him.
I didn't give it too much of a close look as he also had a what looked like original nickel Triplelock @1250 for sale. The nickel was in pretty decent shape for a 100 yo gun, no flaking.
I don't know much about Triplelocks.
Edit: the gun is still available so I asked for some pics.

Here's the pics. I may have been optimistic on the 85% as I never was good at percentages.
Anyways the left side is much nicer than the right side.

I think that $850 are a great price for the pictured MR73 if it is mechanically sound and the cylinder slots don't seem to show the peening and wear that some surplus police MRs sometimes have. The Trausch grips alone go for over $100 and aren't easy to locate.

Allens Armory sent an email last nite and he has listed some MR 73's that have been hard chromed. Not a bad deal being freshly refinished. Most of the surplus guns are used and show a lot of holster wear. They would be an excellent combat revolver or IDPA gun. You could have the fun of shooting .357's full power and shouldn't really hurt the gun in your lifetime. The trigger is adjustable from the front of the grip. Good to know the Trausch grips bring that kind of money, I have a new set I don't need. Larry
if the gun pictured had at least 98% original blue left, it would be a 2000.00 gun. The original blue looks like they melted glass over the gun, on par or better then a Colt Python.

I think that you are getting a pretty good deal, those revolvers were very well made in the old Manurhin factory and show the influence of Raymond Sassia. The French police also had used S&W revolvers with fixed sights and Manurhin had produced Ruger Six revolvers under license for the police. The French police showed good taste in revolvers.

If you get the gun and REALLY want to know the details, this two-part article has a lot of good info, including parts diagrams, parts lists in French/German/English, and comparative stuff in respect to S&W and Colt. Worth perusing:
manurhin mr73 - larvatus prodeo
manurhin mr73 design and construction - larvatus prodeo

Being as robust as any gun, things do break or need replacement once in awhile. I plan on shooting the gun.
What's the deal on parts should you need them?

Manurhin got out of the gun business but Chapuis Arms in France continues production and support.
