My concern with your post is it would appear to be a blanket statement that Federal law will trump state statutes. My concern is that such thinking might place some of our members in legal jeopardy, those in Texas in particular.

I suggest a wait and see approach (at least for our Texas members) until we can get a definitive answer from the TSRA or the Texas AGs office.
Wouldn't it just be a $5 tax stamp as an AOW at the worse case like the Serbu Super Shorties?

per Serbu's website:
Quote:
The SUPER-SHORTY is based on a Mossberg 500 or Remington 870 (at additional cost) 12-gauge shotgun that came from the factory with a pistol grip. Because of this, the SUPER-SHORTY is considered an AOW (Any Other Weapon) and can be transferred with a $5 stamp!

As I get older, the arthritis in my hand has had a negative effect on my grip. The Magnaporting is a God send.
I saw on Magnaport's website that they wanted like $99.50 + shipping for a single barrel with a single row of 11 ports. I assume that yours cost considerably more than that since you have 18 ports.

Picked mine up yesterday. Shot it today. What a blast! Love it.

This is one serious destructive device.

Informational only: mine came with a sling stud installed in the bird's head grip.

The difference is the load does not expand at the accepted 1 inch spread per yard. At 5 and 10 yards: one hole. That's it. Also very controllable, much more so than the reduced recoil R-P and W-W loads. It's not a slug load. Worth a try.

P.S. The SW is still hard to come by here in the valley: $499 at my LGS. FWIW, he had one with a matte nickel receiver. Very attractive.

^^^^what he said! Yes, it is to protect the hand from the muzzle. I understand that horizontal slit at the bottom of the guard is to provide a forward installation point for a sling.

Since this didn't get any traction earlier......

What are the differences/similarities between the Shockwave and the Asylum Weaponry Gatekeeper?

What makes one different/better than the other?

Looks like a secondary market modified gun that the OEM started making in house, for half the MSRP. Other than "Gatekeeper" scrawled on the side, they appear to be identical.

Further research has yielded this:

Gatekeeper I: uses the Mossberg receiver
Gatekeeper II: uses the Remington receiver

Apparently the I also uses the forend with the nylon strap and the II does not.

If I am not mistaken, the Gatekeeper does not use the genuine Raptor Shockwave grip.

Great little gun.
I have a 12ga Winchester Defender and I put a carbon fiber shield on it control the recoil a little better and stop burning my thumb on the barrel.

Well so far I have fired Federal Classic OOB, Remington Express OB and RWS Brenneke OOB through my Shockwave. The RWS was the most noticable in volume(LOUD) and held a fairly tight pattern at 8-10 yards. The other two just were...well buckshot. The patterns are about fist sized at that distance. I'd be curious to see what 25 yds brings with buckshot and slugs.
I have played with numerous bird shot loads and find them to be uninteresting, but effective if needed. The weapon recoils enough that new shooters can be very intimidated very quickly. I would advise some 1oz or less loads for the newer folks. I have found the gun doesn't take kindly to poor recoil management. The stock plug popped out, the magazine cap unscrewed, and the magazine spring keeper popped out of the tube after two rounds. Thankfully I observed this before any damage occurred to gun or shooter.
It's kind of a neat little gizmo that I mainly keep tube loaded only after I found that its small size when slung left me to forget about it. Somehow I managed to find the safety disengaged when I unslung the gun later. I have been trying to reproduce this without success, but I believe it occurred when riding on a lawnmower.

IIRC, Bud's charges a penalty for those who cancel their orders within a month or two. This is a whim purchase for me. Heck, 90 days from now I might have lost interest.

They try, but if you argue that they have no hope of filling those 600 orders in ninety days and that they are completely unethical and unprofessional for not having communicating with you during your waiting period... adding that if you and so many others had been aware they'd oversold so badly you would never have placed a prepaid order...they give you a full refund. That's how it worked out for me...in the parking lot of the LGS on the way in to pick up my Shockwaves...

Looks like Mossberg is starting to get in gear with Shockwaves.
After nearly 3 months waiting on SOS I canceled the order.
Went to every on line dealer and filed out "notify when in stock".
Just got a email from Lanbo's Armory.
$393.87 shipped.
Never dealt with them, just passing the word.

You Texans don't know what your missing.
These are too much fun. Hope your AG gets going.

I believe that TX HB1819 contained an amendment which now makes the Shockwave legal in TX. It was signed by the gov yesterday.

I'm not familiar with lasers for shotguns, but that sounds like a good idea. Besides, with a laser you could shoot it at waist level, to ensure that you don't screw up and smash your face in.

Default Shockwave 1.0

You know I love my Shockwave. Imagine how shocked I was to stumble across this. Not a very clear picture but that sure looks like a Raptor Birdshead grip to me. Old Stumpy was ahead of his time...

I'm enjoying my "toy" Shockwave. I think it's a lot easier to hit with than a stocked 18" gun because I am always shooting high with them. It's kinda hilarious that folks are so against them. If it's fun, so what? Mossberg has a hit and an American company is making money off of a solid product. I now know that distances to various points in my home and exactly what to expect from the Shockwave from Federal Premium 3" OO Buck. I'm excited to try out several different shells for patterning to see if I can improve upon that shell.

[quote=forrestinmathews;139611786]I'm enjoying my "toy" Shockwave. I think it's a lot easier to hit with than a stocked 18" gun because I am always shooting high with them. It's kinda hilarious that folks are so against them. If it's fun, so what? Mossberg has a hit and an American company is making money off of a solid product.

Always a naysayer in a crowd. I'll bet he never had one to begin with, let alone fire one.

You said it! We all know it. Probably bitter because he couldn't get one or he realized that they are much more fun than 18's and couldn't handle it...😁

The Shockwave's low profile is going to make a nice truck gun to have access to something beyond the Block 19 that resides in my truck. My carbine is bulky in comparison.

The Shockwave rides in my Mustang.
Easy to reach and maneuver around the inside of the car.
I have been firing it one handed with my week hand (I'm a southpaw) and it is really not a big deal.
Having fun and building up strength at the same time. WIN WIN.

I definitely agree with you. If you don't learn to shoot it and don't find a load that both you and the gun like, then it is useless. In other words, just like any other gun that I've owned.

I have an underfolder AK that was performing the role of the Shockwave and it is almost twice the weight. I was running it 20+1 and I had found the amount the safety needed to be depressed with the stock folded up to fire. I tried the AR as well with 20+1 but found it to be bulky, even without the Ranger pads. Perhaps with a folding stock the AR would be more cuddly.
My Shockwave rolls along with a G29SF. It's sort of like a G19, but slightly bigger. LOL

I just picked up a purchase from my FFL (an SKS), and asked him about the Shockwave. He hadn't heard of it yet.

When I showed him the advertising on my phone, he sat for a couple of seconds, and then said that unless it came with a letter from the ATF (they all do now, right?), he wouldn't transfer it. We discussed the "loophole" aspects, and he agreed, but he went on to say that he is afraid that loophole will be closed after the fact, and anyone involved in the early purchases is going to have to deal with a lot of red tape.

This is in Louisiana, not one of the restricted states.

So, what are the various worst case scenarios involved here? I suppose anywhere from being grandfathered in, to having to surrender the gun without compensation... but that's just a guess on my part.

Mine came with the BAFTE letter of explanation. I think I'll
take it to the range when I try it out. You never know. I hope
the BATFE doesn't change it's mind down the road. That would
suck!

Mossberg Shockwave all tricked out - YouTube
Yes, he sure did. He's got himself a tacticool blivit. When that forward grip delaminates he'll have a barrel of fun. The dust sure doesn't settle on these guns so he's going to see it sooner than later.

I was on the lake today with mine and the boat sunk.
That Flex Tape didn't hold up on my boat.

Coincidentally, my boat sank too along with all contents (shockwave) on board. I was able to swim to shore but lost everything else. Sux too as was in the deepest part of the lake with little hope of recovery due to all the high water we've had this Spring.

I was going to put a shell caddy on mine, but it would have made it bulky.
It's a shoot it empty and move on design I believe. I have tried reloading it and it works for a time, but then it gets hot and it's done.
