Looks to me like the box has never even been opened. Beautiful gun.

Congratulations on getting this one.
Some things just get better with age. The Colt 1911 is one of them.

Springfield was making 1911's in 1968? If they were, they were getting more than a run for their money.

Both Colt and S&W were building some beautifully finished guns in the 1960s...Colt was also the only builder of 1911s at the time..
I have a 1968 .45 just like that as well as a 1969 .38 Super. Both have had BoMar sights added. The 45 I bought in the late 1980s from a guy at a gun show... He had a PEACH BASKET full of them and was getting up in years and decided to sell them off. The gun was unfired but no box. Had the receipt from the pawn shop he had bought it for for something like $89.00.
10 yards...
The gun probably doesn't have 200 rounds of .45 through it as I usually shoot .38 Super... Main duty has been the lower for a Colt .22 Conversion Unit and a Marvel Long Slide .22....
You have a great gun.....Bob

Sorry for the confusion. I was only making a reference to the quality of firearms made by Smith and Wesson and Colt at the time. Hartford and Springfield are the cities where they were made.

I realized that after reading your post a second time...
Do you have a FXR? I have a 2002 FXDXT and a friend I ride with has a FXR, FXRT and a newly purchased 1994 FXRP that only had 39 miles on it...

I use to ride FXRs a long time ago. I'm still very fond of them but I ride a FLHX now. I've had that handle for a long time.

it baffles me that colt will not polish the rollmarks down flush like these beautiful old guns.

[QUOTE=lowriderfxr;139551264]Just picked this one up on a local board. It's amazing how little use it's seen in nearly half a century. The fit and finish is really beautiful. Looks like Hartford was giving its neighbors in Springfield a little run for their money in the quality department. The original matching box is equally as nice. /QUOTE]
Congratulations on your purchase! That is a "real" 1911. Larry
