Default Saturday range day: Glock vs SW revolvers

The title is a bit of a joke. Don't take it seriously, it just kinda happened that way. I had a few guns that were either new to me or had triggers changed.....so I wanted to give them a try. It just happened to be Glocks and Smith revolvers.

All shooting was done off hand. No rests or bags.

1) Gen 2 Glock 17. Just recently bought it. Clean gun, dates to 1993 and doesn't look like it's been shot much at all. Maybe a few mags. Shooting Aguila ammo at 7 and 15 yards. First 5 shot group with one flyer. Second picture is from 15 yards.

2) G43 9mm. Grip was just too thin for me so I had installed the Hogue rubber slip on sleeve. With the angle and thickness now changed I wanted to see how much better/worse it was. Again, started at 7 with Aguila and was shooting a bit low so I switched to Speer Lawman 124gr. That gave me better groups but to the left. The final target was at 12 yards. And a picture of the target at that distance. The last target picture is both boxes of ammo. 100 rounds Speer/Aguila

3) G23. Gen 4 that was new old stock police gun. No holster wear and looks to have been only tested for function. Unfortunately this gun came with a NY1 trigger. I ordered the standard Glock trigger parts for their factory 5.5lb trigger and had it installed. World of difference!! First 5 rounds at 7 yards. Second 5 moved back to 10-12 yards. In the 3rd target I had moved all the way back and was trying to see where the POI/POA was. I should have probably done that closer up but it is what it is. Unfortunately I didn't bring a lot of 40s&w ammo. It seems that the night sights are a little short or it was meant for a different weight bullet because I was consistently shooting low.

So those were my glocks. Now moving onto revolvers.......and this is where I had problems. Maybe it was ammo, maybe ...i don't know but it was ugly!

The revolvers were model 13-2 with a new firing pin. I had posted about breaking it while at the range a few weeks ago. A new to me 10-7 snub and my occasional carry 642. The ammo used was 130gr FMJ Federal white box. Remington 158gr LRN and Federal red box 158gr LRN. I'll say this. The Remington LRN was garbage. I typically don't complain about ammo, especially range ammo. If it shoots I'm happy how, this Remington was like shooting black powder. After 2 shots I'd have to stop and wait for the smoke to clean. I had 6 rounds left and i left them sitting on the range table. Didn't even want to finish them off.

Anyway......

4) 10-6 snub. I'm not a great revolver shooter by any stretch of the imagination but this was bad in my opinion. I was shooting slow at 7 yards, in fact I never left the 7 yard line. Couldn't. Just look at the shot placements. Bummed and disgusted with that I moved to the 642.

5) 642. Not good either but not as bad as the 10.

6) The last one was the 13-2. It's a re import from a police department overseas. Very nice smooth trigger. Nothing out of ordinary to report with this one except that I kept shooting left a little. All shots were with the 130gr fmj and Blazer aluminum 357mag 158gr hp.

Arik,

As a dedicated S&W fan, it pains me to say that if you gave me one shot, inside 50 ft, for money- I would choose my ladyfriend's Glock 19. My 4" Model 19 Smith would be a close 2nd, but still not ahead of the Glock.

It looks like they work for you- Nice Shooting!

I'm typically not that bad with a revolver. I shoot them slower because I'm used to the sights and triggers on semi autos but that .....whatever that was on Saturday.....that was just ugly
