Pawn shop deal on Ruger...not!
Rechecked a four and 5/8 inch barrel Ruger New Model Blackhawk for sale locally that I may have commented on before. Not sure of caliber, since after I gave it the old looky-loo for about five seconds I handed it back to the seller.Nice grips, with a butt that looked like someone couldn't find a hammer one day and reached for the revolver instead...few scratches, ehh...it was the custom work that threw me off. Apparently, Mr. Magoo had been the previous owner...both front and rear sights were missing. I figure for an asking price of $475, it would have been nice to have what I consider important pieces...oh well. Replacement parts and installation would bump it up to almost LNIB price level on GB. Ya live, ya learn.

Maybe it was converted to fire shot shells only?

Sounds like a DIY project that didn't work out as planned, or someone just got tired of foolin' with it. Probably why it ended up in the hock shop. Too bad. Probably began life as a decent revolver.

At least you could see right away what was wrong. Too many DIY projects have been tinkered with on the interior and the warts only show up on the range. Caveat emptor.

I know that some of you find nice guns/deals at pawn shops. I have NEVER seen anything nice enough to consider buying. Maybe, someday! Bob

Can't understand how someone could wreck a great revolver.
I found a Blackhawk at a gun show that was as new but with super Blackhawk hammer installed and rosewood custom grips in box for $460 otd.

My LGS had a SBH 44 mag w/10.5" barrel in excellent condition except for the two threaded holes were the PO had a scope mounted. But the cost was $329. I'm thinking the perfect handgun hunter? He had a vaquero in 45LC w/7 1/2" barrel in polished stainless that's still NIB unshot with the shipping box for $289. This barrel length is no longer available. I didn't own a revolver in 45LC. Can't pass up a buy if it passes inspection. I'm going to scope the SBH anyway.

Some idiot ruined an extremely well made and fine revolver. Why is it some neglect or abuse expensive guns? Never forget the Remington 7600 I saw a year back at a local gun store. Looked like someone had thrown it off the Grand Canyon! A real shame

Adios, amigos....it's been a great ride!
"Rechecked a four and 5/8 inch barrel Ruger New Model Blackhawk for sale locally that I may have commented on before."
Well, that statement brought down the 2-point hammer on me. "May have" being the cause. I re-checked my threads and posts and, unless something was erased from memory, realized my comments had been directed toward the Pawn Shop representative and not on this website. Memory goes with old age. Don't blame the moderators, it's their website and they provide this service free of charge, so, no complaints. Anyway, appreciate all the info I acquired during my stay here and hope the forum continues providing info and insight into the wonderful world of Smith and Wesson. Carry on!
