Default If I'd Only Knew!

Imagine walking into a class 3 gun shop and buying a new Colt M16 for $631.26, and waiting maybe 2 to 4 weeks for your tax stamp.

Their $20K+ with a 7 to 9 month wait now.

Well, that was 38 years ago. But, we live in today's world. Instead of buying guns in 1979 I wish I bought Google and MicroSoft stock back then.

$20K...........I pass.
Yeah if I knew my 60 Corvette would be worth over 30K now I wouldn't have sold it for $1650 back in 75.
My 70 Z28 I sold for 2K is now worth over 30 K also.
Yeah who knew?

In 1975 I bought a beautiful 1967 Austin-Healey 3000 for $3500.

About 18 months later I sold it for $4000.

It would be worth somewhere north of $50,000 today...

Live and learn...

Someone on the Harley Forum bought a registered H&K auto sear to convert his rifle to select fire. This isn't his, but a pic I found of an H&K auto sear. He paid $33,000 for this. I'd hate to know how much they cost pre May of 1986.

When I bought my first sub machine gun back 1969, the $200 transfer fee was four times the price of the gun!

$631.26 in 1979 is equivalent to $2,027.69 today. And the $200 tax stamp is equivalent to $642.43. still cheaper than the price of that rifle today but mainly because we can't have any new ones.

By the way, 1414 Willow Ave Philadelphia PA is now something called SG+T in Pa

I bought an Ingram MAC-10 in .45ACP in 1976 or 1977 for $125.
The tax stamp was $200. I wanted to buy a suppressor, also $125, but I couldn't afford the second tax stamp.
Sold the MAC-10 in 1998 to a Class III dealer for $750.

Thank Bush #1 and Sen. Hughes (D,NJ) for that violation of our Constitutional Rights in 1986. That needs to be revisited by our new Supreme Court.

Bush #1 was the Vice President in 1986. What did he do?

Hell, I'd be ecstatic if they would take suppressors off the NFA list.

While Bush was Vice-president while it was enacted, he had many great opportunities to repeal it as President, example would be 4 years in the White House. He didn't, and as you know the Clintons were no great champions of the 2nd amendment either. The only hope at this point is a law suit and a slow up hill battle to the Supreme Court.

Reagan was the one who signed it. For being the "Great Communicator," he wasn't necessarily the best prez ever.

Bush did his own damage with the "sporting" clause on import rifles. Must meet a sporting need and have majority made US parts. This ushered in the era of thumbhole stocks, lack of muzzle devices and generally neutered rifles. If it had a bayonet lug, pistol grip and a adjustable stock it was not "sporting". Basically every rifle had to look like a mini14
