Colt SAA Frontier Six Shooter, Tyler Gun Works restoration
A couple of years ago I came into possession of a Colt SAA Frontier Six Shooter, .44-40. Condition was very good mechanically (all functions correct, no alterations or damage) but well worn with little remaining finish, serial number indicating 1914 manufacture. I proceeded to play with it a bit, worked up some mild cast bullet loads and found that it shoots pretty well. Overall a nice representative piece of that period.
Last August I met up with Bobby Tyler, proprietor of Tyler Gun Works in Friona, Texas. Bobby and I had done a little business in the past while I was still operating Lobo Gun Leather (I have since retired and sold the business to new owners). I had an old Smith & Wesson that Bobby was interested in as a piece to showcase his specialties in restoration and metal finishing (color case hardening, bluing). After examining the Frontier Six Shooter Bobby advised me that it was an excellent candidate for restoration. We made a deal.
Just received the completed work. Bluing is immaculate, and color case hardening is as beautiful as any I've ever seen (Tyler Gun Works does the color case hardening for the new Henry rifles, as well as others). Fit and finish work is spot on perfect. Markings are crisp and clean.
In the meantime I ordered a factory letter from Colt, showing that this old Colt is all as originally produced, and was shipped to Momsen, Dunnegan, Ryan Company in El Paso, Texas on March 30, 1915 (a one-gun shipment).
It is a real pleasure to see and handle this beautiful old Colt.

LoboGunLeather, I don't know much about refinishing; but your post write-up was terrific!

Lobo, finished product is N I C E. Please, don't get rid of those stocks/grips. A perfect example of 102 year old cared for wear.

I have had Bobby do a couple of guns for me. Here are two SAA I screwed up and let get some surface rust. He did both for a VERY good price.
He has an "OM" Vaquero he's converting to 38-40 now. The only complaint I have is he is so S-L-O-W!==Been 2 years now(?).
PS Ivory is from Boone Trading, wart hog tusk is from a swap meet and knife is from Nordic Knives and is a maker in SA.
