I have seen that picture before, but it's been a long time. I have seen some of the WWII-era leather flap belt holsters which were dyed black on the front, but left alone (brown) on the back. But that was the way it was originally done, to keep the black dye from rubbing off on uniform pants.

Well, that's two classics right there...the Colt with the sweetheart grips and the photograph by Bourke-White.

The Colt is an American classic, a workhorse pistol that has been in this country's service for well over a century now.

There aren't enough superlatives to describe Margaret Bourke-White's photography, especially her WWII work. Her wartime work ranks among the greatest photographs of the war ever made. She was fearless. Her photographs of the Buchenwald survivors showed the entire world the evil that was perpetrated by the Nazis.
