Default Is Springfield Armory nervous

Just got this email about a new pistol platform from Springfield Armory being announced tomorrow. Are the Shields and M&P 2.0 making them nervous, I wonder

If it's as "earth shattering" and "innovative" as the much hyped Saint rifle I would expect it to be maybe a Walther PPK clone? Maybe a Makarov? Wait, wait, I got it - a snub nosed .38 caliber 5 shot revolver.

May be a dumb question, why would the Shield & M&P 2.0 make Springfield be nervous?

The project has been in the works for a couple years.
I suspect they want to get away from the Croatian sourced XD's.

Springfield has their portion of the market and the faithful with always buy them. There is no reason for them to be nervous over any m&p pistol. They are both as equally good in certain ways and bad in other ways.

Friends don't let friends buy Taurus.

To me, they've never recovered from the slam-fire fiasco a couple of years back, may have been longer ago. You had to inspect the grip safety, and if it had the proper hole in it the pistol was sorta-kinda safe to use. I guess they're popular with some people - but I'll never own one. Their advertising hype reminds me of the hype for the latest FN 9mm. One more blocky over-sized pistol trying to compete with Glock - I guess I just don't understand what process their marketing types go through before they jump into expensive projects like this...

I put it here because the way the announcement is worded it sounds to me like a reaction to the success of the Shield lines. I doubt it will be as revolutionary announcement as they portray it to me so I found it funny that they made it like sound like the way Apple talks about the next iPhone release.

I don't think they are nervous, glock released the g43 after the shield, they are just trying to compete with the market like everybody else. I hope they release a great gun without the stupid grip zone, and better than the XDS. Probably a 380 ?? Maybe they are anticipating to the new shield 2 or BDG 2 ??
I have owned several SA guns, liked some better than others, but never had any issues with any, anyway just two more days to find out !!!

Nah....Shield line has been out for years (only most recent the .45) and they've been big sellers for quite some time. Yes these rebate incentives have pushed sales, but doubt it's got any other manufacturer scrambling for a big seller. People are still buying Glocks, Rugers, Kimbers, etc...
Springfield needs to do something original to shake things up. Don't know what that would be though.

I would guess they are introducing a 380 pistol since they do not have one in their lineup. They said in the email a gun so small you will take it everywhere?

That's my guess too..If this turns out to be a nice pocket pistol I might give it a try until S&W releases the BDG2

maybe a 10mm as that's been verified in the works for a while now.
I have an XDM 3.8C .45 and absolutely love it.
It's 1/3 of my EDC rotation with my shield and 9C

Seriously doubt it specially when they advertised to be a small conceal carry gun.

Can't say I have much interest in striker fired handguns (though I do own a couple), but I certainly don't have any for one that says "Grip Zone" on it. Hopefully they took that off at a bare minimum.

I've got to be honest here folks, my Springfield XDsc 9mm is the best hand gun I've shot. If their new XDE would happen to be a .380 I'll have a Sig P238 for sale.

I'm not to big on the xd series myself. I think there good guns just not for me as feel and I'm not to keen on them not being made in the USA. I do however like my Springfield 1911 it's one of my favorite 1911s maybe the Xde series will wow us. On another note I was at a sporting goods store yesterday and they had up a bunch of glock guns and gear advertisements. So there either releasing a new series of guns or gear or there trying to keep up with S&W and Springfield on there promos and rebates

My thoughts exactly. Everyone comes out with new guns and it takes a lot longer to design, make, test, build and distribute a gun then the M&P 2.0 has been out.

Because they aren't advertising to people who like to stare into the finish of the gun

Found this

No concrete evidence yet but looks like it will be a hammer fired gun and possibly without the grip safety.

Springfield, like Kimber have a market that is name specific. I doubt any manufacturer is making them nervous. Are they trying to stay on top of the game? I hope so.

The merit of this gun seems to be the proclaimed easiness of racking the slide and the DA/SA trigger and de-cocker. MSRP $519, curious what the street price will be? I'm glad it doesn't have the grip safety, it's not something I prefer to have.
Will be interesting to handle and feel the trigger

Longer, taller, and heavier than a Shield, according to the SA web site specs.

I have an H&k p30sk no safety it looks similar to the xde. I do like my P30sk pretty solid gun I haven't had one issue with it but for the price I shouldn't.

could be, but the mags hold one more round. SA guns usually aren't light but they feel solid like a tank. wondering how heavy the trigger pull will be ?

I have nothing against Springfield Armory, but if it were not for their masterful PR team, the Saint and the XD E would be bad jokes right now. I guess there's always room for another reasonably priced AR but the Saint is probably over priced at $899.

It looks like they thought the world needed yet another compact single stack 9 and they gave it a hammer only to be different from everybody else. In psychology they call that regression. I would love to have been a fly on the wall in that brainstorming session.

The good news is: Prices will continue to plummet and with every late entry into the game there will be fewer bad choices for us to make.

I can't see a downside to this introduction - more choices are always better! I have stayed away from SA, in part, because of safety issues with their striker-fired pistols. The exposed hammer solves my concerns about that. I'll wait until it's been out for a while like prolly most everyone here would - but I will buy one if it proves to be safe and reliable. Someone else has already mentioned this - it's kinda like a new age version of the 3913/3914 ...

There are people who cry about no new hammer fired single stacks like the old 39xx

The saint is about $650 here

Maybe I just never paid much attention to Springfield. Never saw anything I wanted, but I don't remember seeing any kind of masterful PR. Just an occasional commercial in the rags

I am a bit nervous about buying another. I bought the Xds 45ACP . The firearm carries very well I W B . My problem is slide bite with this one. Had a thread on board. Some said a duck bill would work. It was a very rough first 500 rounds F T F . My 1st every Springfield still want to really like it but nervous. This new model is nice will stay tuned.

Then don't buy it. It's not mandatory

Exactly. This is the niche they are looking to market to, and it is a valid one. IME it is a small niche these days (at least around here) but a valid one none the less.

The folks out there who still prefer the traditional DA/SA action had a lot fewer choices than the striker fired preferring folks.

That's not me... but that does not make it invalid or a bad idea. There is a small niche I would personally love to see filled that I doubt will ever happen, so I think it is a good thing to have a manufacturer trying to fill those small gaps.

I said all that, and I am certainly not a Springfield fanboy. I have one original 4" XD45 that I am not that fond of. I borrowed a couple of XDs's to try to warm up to them and it just didn't stick.

Will be interesting to handle and feel the trigger

And they say the slide is easy to rack because you can pre-cock the hammer, which is true on most DA/SA pistols, so I'm not sure what the big news is? DA/SA 9 mm pistol that isn't as small or light as the Shield9, but isn't much bigger...and gives you one more round?!?

Looking at the specs, the XD-E will be similar to the shield 45 size wise. If you want something lighter/smaller than the shield then the g43 is perfect.

The DA/SA trigger is a deal buster for me.

Springfield's biggest worry would seem to be that everyone will declare the new gun butt ugly. It looks like one of those pet hybrid ducks to me.

Why oh why with the Grip Zone still?? I can't stand that. Might as well stamp "Boolits come out here" at the muzzle.

I see a little bit of a few types of guns. From the mag release forward the frame resembles a Sig 2022.

"Grip Zone" is funny but irrelevant. Wouldn't make my purchase based on it

I might give a try why not, for those interested there is a good review on xdtalk about it.

I would try one.....at the range!!!

My wife bought me an XDM45 a couple years ago (xmas) and its an absolute dream....so much so that she recently reniged and took it back!

Which tells me nothing except that I have a gun that I like thats 3 times the size of the class gun we are talking about.

The fact that "slide bite" is already floating around out there spooks the **** outta me. I have already determined that I would have to get friendly with one for a while at the rangerental before I took a permanent plunge on one.

Does anyone but me really detest the term "platform"?

I can guess at why their advertising people use it, but it impresses me not at all.

After the decision just made, I don't care what they come out with, they won't get my business. Seems Springfield Armory and Rock River have given up their opposition to Illinois bill SB-1657 after the bill was altered to make them exempt. The bill restricts residents to 9 gun purchases a year and requires state licensing for gun dealers.
