Default Dan Wesson .357 Magnum

Just helping a friend. He will probably sell this gun and he is checking its value. I said I knew where to find the answer. HERE!

Please advise. It appears to be in reasonably good shape.

Thanks.

I had seen one at my local pawn shop. It was in really good condtition and I was surprised to find it priced at $350. I went home and checked pricing on them and was surprised the price was considered about right.
I wish now that I had bought that gun.

But I often see them on gun sites for a lot more also. Check out gunbroker to get pricing but remember it is what they actually do or don't sell for tells the story. The guns that have the complete 3 barrel gun kit bring some really high prices on Gunsamerica.

If it's one of the ones made at the Monson location and in VG+ to excellent I'd put it at $350-$400 in my area. If you don't have the tool to remove the barrel then I'd drop those by $50.

I bought a 15-2 in like new condition in the styrofoam clamshell with 4" bbl, combination tool and gauge for $299 about ten years ago. Wish I still had it.

They are good guns. I had one as my first centerfire revolver and later on traded it for a Security Six. It taught me how to reload and how to shoot. Wish I still had it.

Does every Dan Wesson revolver have a removable barrel or just the ones that came with three barrels? My friend has no idea if his barrel is removable or not. I have not seen the gun personally; he took the picture.

Based on the photo, his gun has the removable barrel & shroud assembly.
The DW 15-2 .357's made in Monson, MA are excellent revolvers in every respect, however here in Penn's Woods they just don't bring good money. $325 to$375 is the max for an DW with one barrel. My LGS just sold one in 95% condition with a 4 and 8 inch barrel, two sets of grips, the barrel tool and hard case for $475. It sat in his case for several months.

Now, a good condition DW .44 Magnum will sell very quickly and bring $700 plus as long as it hasn't been shot to death.

Thanks! He sent me a photo of the muzzle and I thought it looked like it had the assembly but I was uncertain.

Not worth anything. Don't worry, you can send it to me c/o this forum.
There were a few fixed barrel DWs made, IIRC they usually had fixed sights.
Those of us who have them will testify to their accuracy.

Pretty sure DW made a couple models that had fixed barrels.

The only real negative I found with mine was the stocks. You're restricted to factory made as they are one piece and mount with a bolt through the bottom. I'm not aware of any after markets options. At least there are a few different stock options if you look around.

It's pretty basic when you understand the gap between the barrel and the cylinder but I'll relate my experience. Was shooting target .38 loads at a rack of plates with a 4" taper barrel Model 10-5 S&W and my 4" 15-2 DW. Same load, same distance the M10 would tilt the plates back but not enough to knock them flat. The DW knocked everyone flat if it was hit. I figured it had to be due to the extra velocity from the tighter gap I had set on the DW.

Picked up a 4" about 5 years ago...$325. No box or tool, but did have a great pair of magna zebra wood grips on it.

Hogue makes their mongrip in rubber and several varieties of wood for the Dan Wesson small frame 15-2. Just check the web. The 15-2 I owned had the original wood DW target grip and a rubber Hogue.

I purchased a set of Hogue wood combats several years ago that were represented as being for a K-Frame S&W. They are apparently for the "other Wesson" as there is just a full-length rectangular hole through the stock. If any of you SW fans wants to try them, send me $5 for shipping. If you like what you get, send me what you think is fair. If you don't, pass them along.

Many thanks to yourself and Buford57. I wasn't aware of the Hogue offering.
