Thumbs up Remington's response to the Shockwave

The "Tac-14".

Model 870 Tac-14 | Remington

I was kind of put off by the forearm design but it can't get snagged on something like the strap on the Shockwave. Plus I'm a lifelong 870 shooter/owner so I guess that means I'll need to get both.

I like their quote too, "the shortest allowable distance between powerless and prepared".

The forearm looks like a Magpul sourced part to me.

I have always loved the 870 as well, but I like the position of the Mossberg safety better, and the 870 holds one less round in the mag tube.

I understand why, but it is still a shame.

I prefer the Remington over the Mossberg, but haven't seen either of these two short versions in person yet. Will be interesting to see how they feel.

Correct. I checked the photos in the link again and you can see Magpul on the forearm. Still don't like the looks of it but I also still think it might be less likely to snag or get tangled up in than the strap on the SW. Not likely but the strap on the SW could potentially aid an opponent trying to disarm you by providing a grap point.

Was out shooting with some friends a few weeks back, one had the Mossberg version...
Two folks tried it, the owner and another friend, both suffered abrasions on their shooting hand due to the stout recoil and the interaction with the Mossberg safety....

I was impressed by the gun generally, but now I'm waiting for the Remington version..

I was shooting one of my M870 Police Magnums at the time, and shot a bunch of ammo, anything other than "tactical" loads was getting overly harsh for these old bones, and the boys shooting the Mossberg were not having any fun including the low recoil tactical loads...

Interesting gun and concept nonetheless..... but the Remington version has sealed the deal for me....

I'd wondered how long it'd take the copycats to start showing up.

Not sure either version is legal in Texas. Bud's quit shipping the Shockwave to Texas and Ohio. Now I know how Californians feel. A little bit.

I held both the Shockwave and the TAC-14 yesterday at the NRA show and must say that I was not impressed with the TAC-14. The Magpul forend just didn't suit my hand nor does the placement of the slide release. It gives up 1 round to Mossberg and the safety definitely isn't as easily used as on the Mossberg. I am curious as to where the price will fall too - perhaps it will be priced close to the Shockwave in order to be competitive. Just my first impression of it...

At first glance, I rather like the Remington. I assume that the 14-inch barrel is legal due to the gun being made as a "pistol." I also assume that ATF has signed off on this.

Probably not for me, though, as the recoil must be brutal and my older bones are getting brittle. I love 870s and have often said that one can never have too many. For now, I'll stick with this one for defense use - for any sane person, just the sound of it being shucked should settle most arguments.

I have an 870, but prefer my 18" 1100. I am too lazy for pump guns, and have rarely owned anything but Remingtons. I had two Mossbergs for a short time, kept reaching behind the trigger guard for the safety. It wasn't there, so I sold them.

The safety on the mossberg will never contact your hand unless you have a loose grip which is already a bad thing on a shotgun this size

I'd probably have to have 3 of them.

And......can the fore end be swapped out for a more appealing one without going to jail and getting a new boyfriend?

Default An Ounce of Caution

I would advise anyone contemplating the purchase of what amounts to a sawed-off shotgun, to first try one if you have the opportunity.

Based upon the current crop of firearm advertising, I can no longer expect a random intruder or two but a horde of thugs armed with machetes and AK-47s. Yes, the shotgun in its various forms, is a valid selection in certain tactical scenarios but I'm not sure its the right weapon for many people, especially those who may be too complacent to put in the time and expense it takes to become proficient with it.

Well, you'll have to try this 14" model with mag loads for the proof... Both of the shooters I referenced are advanced shooters, this little gun really is a beast in recoil, but I'll pass your info on to them...

Nonetheless, I'm an 870 guy, and I prefer the safety where they positioned it.....

On youtube, I saw a couple people shoot the Shockwave from their waist/midsection. That may look cool, but I don't see how you can hit the target that way.

Idid. (Hit the "target"...wasn't paper) Of course it was at garlic breath distance and less than a second decision.
In short, no or little warning and very close__from the waist or
midsection will work.
Some on my department did great at 7 yards at the range. But, no stress at the range, eh?

Ive shot with this grip on a mossberg and a standard pistol grip 500 JIC. Standard bird shot, 3" turkey loads, and 3" buckshot. Hold it wrong and get burnt. Hold it right and be fine. Guess your advanced shooters need more practice
