Vintage riot gun can still get the job done
Five rounds of Fiocchi 12 gauge reduced recoil 00 Buck (12LE00BK) at 6 yards:
I am guessing that the individual groups look something like this:

Vintage Shotguns still getting job done? I got news for you those
"Vintage" shotguns will still be getting the job done well after
the latest stamped metal and plastic part abominations are on
the scrap heap! The model 12Win, Rem 31 & Ithaca 37 were the
last and best pumps ever produced. These guns were the hi point of workmanship and material. Ever since their demise we
have been going downhill. In semi autos there was only the
Browning A-5 that made the cut. The other autos of the period
were well made but never popular. Rem & Savage made the A5
but their own designs didn't fly. Winchester never had a winner
either.

Would not want to be on the wrong end of the hallway from you and your howitzer if I was possessed of wrongful intent!

I was going to mention the Rem 1100 being the biggest selling semi-auto, but as I was typing I realized you may not consider the 1100 vintage being post WWII.
If I'm not mistaken though the Remington model 11 (Browning's A5) sold better than the Browning as it was a bit cheaper. It was not Remington's design, but the A5 made under license. Remember Browning was waiting to offer Remington the A5 when the company president died.

I have a Model 31. What a great gun. The pump with a ball bearing action. I wish I had a riot gun.

You are right on 1100 sales, but it is a stamped parts gun. The
1100 & 870 did run away with the shotgun market for several
years.
If I remember my gun history, JMB first offered gun to Win. who
turned it down. One reason was the royalty JMB wanted, the
other was that Win had the 1897, which was making them money
and they looked at A5 auto as a novelty that wouldn't fly. Win
had been in the habit of buying JMBs designs even if they didn't
plan on production, just to keep them off the market. I read a
very dry book on the Winchester Company. They had some
unusual business practices to say the least.
My gunsmith was a Winchester man ( pre 64s ) on most things
we agreed. The one running arguement we had was Win 12 vs
Rem 31. He claimed 31 was a better gun. The thing I liked about
the 31 was that you could put a scope on them very easy. The
under cut sighting area on the reciever would allow the use of
22 rings for grooved recievers. You had to use a good set made
from steel to hold the recoil. They made good slug guns.

No reason it wouldn't. I'm pretty sure that 00 buck doesn't know what tube it's running down!
