Response from Mossberg about making a 20ga. Shockwave
Early this week I sent a query to Mossberg if they were
thinking about making the Shockwave in 20 gauge. That
caliber would make me go get one.
Here is their response:
Thank you for your e-mail. There are currently no plans
on offering the Shockwave in 20 gauge. I will pass your
suggestion onto our new products department. If we can
be of further assistance, please let us know.
Sincerely,
Customer Service Team
O.F. Mossberg & Sons, Inc.
SO if you want one in 20 gauge send them a request. If
enough of us Whine they might cobble a a few together.

From the Mossberg website MSRP is $455.00.
Capacity - 6
3 inch chamber
14 inch barrel
All around exact same as the 12 ga Shockwave.

With all the improvements to 410 buckshot and self defense type loads I was thinking the 410 shotgun might make a decent inside the home weapon for older recoil sensitive persons .
I would have to look long and hard at a 410 Shockwave .
In the 12 ga. videos the recoil is rather " brisk" ... a 410 would be quite manageable . I want to see the 20 ga. in action too , it might be just the ticket.

Taurus will be putting a 14 inch barrel on the Judge...
J/K. I've been thinking about a .410 double for a while, but I'd jump all over a .410 Shockwave myself.

My impression always has been that .410 recoil is fairly sharp . . .

Good news, this is ... I've seen more than a couple of reviews talking about the recoil of the 12-Ga version. Mossberg even took the time to re-design and reduce the size of the receiver. Now, I just need some money ...

I'll stick with my Mossberg 510 20 gauge Youth model..........only 3+1 but I like the stock....... IIRC with its 18.5 barrel it's still less than 36" OAL vs 27 for the shockwave.

A lot of people said the same thing about the 20 gauge Shockwave that we can buy now.
Send emails and make phone call's and go on gun forums for a 16 gauge.
Ya never know.

Not that it really matters, but I sold my 12-gauge Shockwave months ago. Just didn't seem like something I needed, what with everything else I have in here for home-self-defense. And the idea of carrying one around in the car or truck just seems...silly. To me, anyway. I was all excited and stuff when I first got it, but that soon passed. It began to seem faddish to me. The Next Big Thing.
Don't see myself rushing out to buy another one in any gauge, especially for over $450...considering I paid only $389 for the 12-gauge.
Eh, well, Shockwaves...

I am not an expert on NFA. However, I read that there is a possibility that the 12 gauge Shockwave could be a destructive device because it has a barrel diameter greater than 0.5" and it is not a shotgun.
So I wondered if the 20 gauge Shockwave had a diameter less than 0.5" -- Nope, 0.6"
A 410 Shockwave would have a barrel diameter of 0.410"

I imagine Mossberg thought they had worked this out before investing millions of dollars in producing and selling this shotgun, but thankfully, we've got you to bring them in line with NFA regulations . . .

Probably cause they're all here. The 16-gauge is enjoying a resurgence in popularity. For some reason among rabbit and crow hunters.
And 16-gauge doubles are bringing premium prices...when you can find one. A 16-gauge Winchester Model 24 recently sold for $650. When's the last time you've even seen a Model 24 in any gauge?

I am wondering what advantage would there be buying a 20 gauge shockwave over a 12 gauge? recoil? weight?
