Is there a bayonet available for a Ruger AR-556 rifle ?

I think you can use a standard M4 bayonet but it won't look right. M4 has a 14" barrel and the AR15 a 16" barrel. What I remember from one of the AR forums the barrel protrudes 2" past the guard on the bayonet.

Why??? Are you worried about being overrun by octogenarians?

My Grandson has run out of "Bells and Do Dads" to attach to his first purchased rifle. He asked me about a bayonet, I told him I would ask the question on this forum.

Probably but they aren't that accurate past 25yds.

You seem to have drawn several comments, but very little useful information!

I am only guessing that if there is a lug and proper flash hider, a standard M-16 bayonet should fit. Bayonets are a good CQB weapon if you run out of or low on ammo or time to reload. May be useful in a zombie wet dream, but of little use in civilian life! I recommend he spend the $40-60 on ammo or batteries for his doodads!

P.S. You didn't post where he is located, do they have an octogenarian infestation there also?

I believe I read recently that the last bayonet charge by American troops was in the Korean War, more than sixty-four years ago. That might make him want to save his money.

Actually, I'm pretty sure "the last bayonet charge by U.S. troops was at LZ X-Ray in Viet Nam.

The 6th Marines had a bayonet charge on the approach to Bagdad!

And the last U S Army cavalry charge was in the Philippines against the japs. The Japs ran away at the sight of Americans on Horse Back blazing away with .45 Colts and an Attitude You gota love troops who know their job.

But the mental image of a bayonet charge at the St. Bernard Home for Blue hairs, just won't leave me alone! I think Mental has a lot to do with the image!

Just like the picture above, a bayonet won't really fit on a 16" barrel with a carbine length gas system. They will fit a 20" rifle length, a 16" mid length, or a 14.5" carbine length setup.
