Default Hunting Rifles Wasted On Non-Hunters

My only response to anyone who would dare tell me that these guns are wasted on a non-hunter is that they might be right.

great collection of quality walnut, steel and glass,

I must admit that I have had an ongoing affair with a 257 Roberts for decades, it don't matter what hot current gun or caliber that I am shooting at the time,

through the years I still have had to take out that old classy 25 Cal., and use her every now and then just because she has treated me so well throughout the years

I'm no hunter, but I can appreciate the craftsmanship of those vintage rifles.

Fantastic examples of bolt, falling block and lever rifles.
Plastic and SS are functional but IMO, beauty lies in quality blued steel and walnut.

Your pic of the rifle with the Leupold 4X Mountaineer mounted brought to my mind one of the same era that I mounted on the first custom rifle that I ever built; It is a 240 Page Super Pooper in a commercial FN Mauser action with a P.O. Ackley five land and groove barrel. I mounted a 6X Leupold Mountaineer and couldn't have selected a better scope for that rifle and caliber. That rifle has been from South Texas to the North Slope of Alaska. It and that scope has done every thing that I have ever asked. It has taken Mule Deer and Antelope in Nevada, feral hogs and White Tails in Texas, Caribou in Alaska and Prairie Dogs in Arizona, Utah, Wyoming and Montana. Oh, I forgot the Rock Chucks in Utah. Yeah, the accuracy has dropped off, but I have more or less retired that rifle. I can't bring myself to re-barrel it now. It like me is all but out to pasture.....

I have to chuckle at the thought of that statement being uttered at the Creedmoor Match of 1874 as 1000 yard bullseyes were scored. Some folks just don't get it.

Nice hardware.

I have a 1947 year model 70 just like your 257 Bob but mine is in 30 Gov't 06 caliber. When I bought it, it was in even better condition than your beautiful 257. The key word in the last statement is "was". For the last 32 years I have drug that rifle over countless miles, killed more deer, elk, antelope and coyotes than I had a licenses for. It is scared up, with the checkering beaten flat, bluing missing and what looks like a polished bolt knob. That knob got polished from use. Every dent and ding tell a story.
