Can anyone identify this pistol
I have a pistol I have no idea about its identity or history. It does not have any brand/serial numbers/etc. The only thing imprinted on the barrel is "made in spain". Whole pistol is 12" long and the barrel is 71/4" long. There is a chamber for loading along the bottom of the barrel. pistol1.jpg

Looks like a shortened Henry rifle with a pistol grip.

It appears to be an early S&W or Volcanic repeating pistol from @ 1850, or a copy of one. It looks like a Henry or early Winchester because those rifles were developed from the earlier S&W design. The S&W and Volcanic guns were not successful because the rimfire cartridge had not been perfected at the time they were built.

Look down the barrel. If you notice your second picture shows a screw near the muzzle. it is screwed right through the barrel to the other side. Also, there is no firing pin on the bolt. These reproductions can be bought for $50 on ebay and other sites today.

Buyer Beware! My brother got sucked in at a auction by one of
these "replica" firearms. He bought a Schofield replica for $140.
He though he was buying a firing replica. He didn't know that
Replica had more than one meaning. He found out when he didn't
have to fill out purchase form when we picked it up.

The "Made in Spain" is a good tipoff in identifying it as a modern replica of an early Volcanic pistol. Back in my callow youth I had a real Volcanic pistol which I stupidly sold for about 1% of what it would be worth today.
