Ruger P90--I think it's good looking
Found a brand new P90 45 auto with the blued slide. Still has the inspection stickers on the frame.
There was quite a bit of old oil inside the gun, so I cleaned it out and coated everything with Ballistol.
I like the size and weight of this .45. Folks talk about how ugly and clunky these alloy P series are, but I love it. Really, it's no bigger than a commander 1911 in length, and about the same weight as one too. Just a little thick in the frame--but with aluminum, thick is good.
Question: would Ballistol be good enough to protect and lubricate the aluminum frame rails and slide? I know that steel riding on aluminum can cause damage.
Big fan of this gun already. Looking forward to shooting it at the range.

If you like it before you've shot it, you will really like it after you've shot it

Most accurate 45 ACP in the stable. Much more so than the high dollar pony gun and the M&P 45. More accurate than most Kimber and Les Baer customs that I've had the pleasure to try out. Lots of gun for the money!

I have read about the *legendary* accuracy of the P90. That's part of the reason I wanted to get one; that, and how durable and reliable they seem to be as well.

First of all, congrats. That is a sweet pickup.

Lubricate yes.
Protect? Maybe. Ballistol is hygroscopic (absorbs moisture from the air). Short term storage between range sessions, shouldn't be an issue. Long term storage in a region where the climate can be humid, might be an issue.

I live in Illinois humidity and I have had good success for around 30+ years with Break Free. A CLP that does it all.

I always thought the P series Rugers were plain jane homely looking but I have only heard good about them.

I have the bit down-sized P97 (likewise in 45ACP). Thinner polymer frame fits my smaller hands better. The barrel was a half inch shorter as well. I used to have the P90 -- it really was accurate. The P97 carried on that tradition.

The P Series 9's are very accurate and dependable as well. P89 DC bought in 93 has never had an issue is more accurate than the M9 or 5903 Smith.

IMO, any P-Series Ruger has a "tough, all business" look to it and performance to back it up like some of the great vintage battle pistols ( old 1911's , VIS35 Radom, wartime Hi-Powers, etc. )

Great gun!
I own a P944 40 S&W. These are great guns. I use grease on the frame rails to minimize wear. TW25 works good. looks good shoots good.

I always like the look of the P-series Rugers and their reliability is hard to beat. Unfortunately, I find the ergonomics and trigger a little too unacceptable for my liking.

I have a KP-95DC, the polymer 9 in stainless. Anyway, I would love a P90 or 944. For metal on metal rails, I sure would use a light grease. I do on my 439,5906 and 6906.

This thread has renewed my interest into the P90, a gun that I have overlooked in the past. I had forgotten that Ruger had made these along with the P85, and 89 with an alloy frame, as the polymer framed P95, 97, and 345 are much more common in my area. Well, after reading the posts here, I happened upon one at my LGS, and bought it. I pick it up tomorrow...

Congratulations! I used to have 1. It was a fun range gun that I liked to shoot! Not sure why I sold it. It was the same configuration as yours. As you well know, they are built like a tank! Bob
