For carrying I've got a modest Ontario, but for cooking there is nothing beats a Chicago Cutlery 44S 10" Chefs knife.

Opinel #13. Almost 20inches long. I have bigger, but they are swords or machete's.
Bigger isn't always better.

When I butcher I use a 14" bladed Dexter butcher knife. This is a good size for butchering hind quarters of elk sized animals. I have a 16" bladed butcher knife for butchering moose sized critters but I loaned it out to a friend in British Columbia and have not seen it for a decade or two now. At present I am trimming tree on my property and am using an 18" bladed Bartaux machete.

Himalayan Import AK47 Khukuri at 24" and 70 oz. That's a Randall 12-11" Smithsonian Bowie for comparison.

For me, it's gonna be my 14" Old Hickory butcher knife. I have longer machetes, but this would look right at home in a kitchen drawer, if only it would fit. I call it the Elstin Limehouse Replica for its disarming qualities.

Cold Steel Laredo Bowie made from 0-1 tool steel with a 10½-inch blade. The inscription on the blade reads, "...And my vengeance shall fall upon thine enemies."

Cold Steel says it's a machete, but I don't think the blade's heavy enough.

I have a folding "pocket" knife with an overall length, when open, is not quite 24 inches. Doesn't fit in my pocket so good, but is really neat looking.

A couple of recent acquisitions.
12" camp/chopper by Phillip Patton. Seriously, if you get a chance to score one of his knives, do it. You won't be disappointed.
11" D-ring Bowie by Cody Hofsommer.
10" San Mai Bowie by the Sobral Bros. at CAS Knives in Argentina. Love that color on the stag.

I have collected knives for 40 years and most of them are retired. However I have about 2 dozen that have to work for a living. Here is my 18" Barteaux machete working today trimming trees.

When I was a teenager a friend of mine whose father had a knife like that I think. It looked like a straight blade but the handle would fold out to make the blade even longer. His story was he traded a man from Jamaica (who worked at the local resort in our town) for a goat that he had kept to keep the brush back. Oh and my largest knife would be my USMC KABAR.

1970 Model Nepalese Kukri
1970 Model Nepalese Kukri, as issued to the Gurkhas at the time. My dad brought about ten of these back from one of his numerous trips to Nepal and I eventually ended up with two of them. At the time we were living in New Delhi, India. There were very cheap knock-offs of the kukri being sold in India at the time; believe me, they weren't worth taking home.

Come to find out, these knives are still available, and for a very fair price, although not exactly the same $2.00 apiece my dad paid in 1970. A word of warning if you end up with one of these knives: When withdrawing the blade from the sheath, force the blade against the back of the sheath with your off hand as you pull the knife out. If you don't do this carefully, and correctly, at the very least you'll destroy the sheath by cutting through it with the curved blade, or worse, you may slice your fingers!

Since I don't have to whack my way thru a jungle, fight off an Alamo full of meskins, chop wood/split kindling with a knife or use a blade for a prybar, my biggest is a 4" blade and inch wide and an eighth thick (and I'd prefer 3/32). Since I only use a knife to cut stuff with, there is a lot more of those big useless hogs for the rest of you........grin

My two longest knives both have 7 1/2" blades but their stag handles fold over the back half of the blade. Their sheaths fit them folded. I bought two mostly because they are different designs from different makers. Only one has a swing guard and they have different locking mechanisms. I bought them in Germany in 1972 as souvenirs and collector items. While I did take them on hunting and back packing trips they are mostly novelties. The only place I recall using them opened up was the kitchen.

My biggest is this Collins machete with an 18 inch blade. I got it because it's exactly like the ones I carried as a teenager working as a surveyor's assistant. I've cut many a line-of-sight through incredibly thick brush with one and I've seen him take down a 5 inch oak tree with one.

One of my earliest memories involving knives was my Dad telling me that one day he would give me his belt knife which just so happened to be a 1958 Russell Belt Knife, I was probably about 4 years old at the time, and was born the year the knife was produced!
The sad part is how I actually came about acquiring my Dad's knife; I confiscated it! I came by for a visit about 20 years ago and discovered his knife blade up in his shop vice! The vice jaws had cut into the blade badly; I've cleaned it up as best as possible, but it was pretty much messed up beyond repair.
Somewhere around 2004 I discovered that D.H. Russell was making a reproduction of this knife and ordered several, including one for my Dad. The following pictures are of my Dad's original 1958 model and my 2004 model. I have my Dad's 2004 model as well, just can't locate at the moment.

Mine would be this Case Kodiak that I inherited from my father in law. It still sits unused.

Bear & Sons Bowie next to a 3.5" Pre-27
Technically, the Bowie is my wife's, so here's a Cattaraugus with a 6" M28-2
Well, actually that's hers too.
My largest is this Schrade Sharpfinger with my M17-3
