I'm going to be a dad! What do I buy?

A ticket on the first bus out of town? Just kidding.
My experience with getting my kids interested in my hobbies is don't try too hard. My folks didn't buy me my first gun... or any gun for that matter. Had little bearing on how much I liked guns.
Nevertheless, I bought my kid a new Marlin 925 rifle about 7 years ago (they don't make them anymore.) I still haven't given it to him because I wanted to see him develop a real interest and passion for shooting so that it doesn't become like the model airplanes that never get used.
I thought I would give him a BB rifle first. He thought it was neat, but no neater than any of his other stuff. Then I bought him a BB pistol. It was OK, but again no real excitement. Ive taken him to the range many times to expose him to shooting firearms, and he likes it, but isn't what I'd call passionate about it.
As it turns out, he's much more interested in archery. He participated in the school archery team last year in 9th grade, and really enjoyed it, so we bought him his Genesis bow a few weeks ago. Archery is his own thing, and he likes it for that reason.
We tried to get him interested in piano. In the long run he thought it was a drag, but he really liked TaeKwonDo, and earned a black belt over a three year period. Sometimes I think it may be better to let them develop an interest on their own.
