All nice stuff there. And glad the Old guys are still enjoying it. I have a thousand stories on M16's. Nobody cares. They work. And if they did not we would be not using them fifty YEARS LATER.

And other countries would not either, Which they do also. They will take all the lend lease M-16'S and M-4's we can supply And heard many tales of they won't stop anything. But not one person yet has volunteered for me to shoot a mag of thirty into them even wearing a vest.

Glad this post was up on a Smith Forum. It has gotten play on the 1911 Forum. And on the AR-15 forum. many a Colt hater out there. Or maybe a Price hater thing. My answer to that is always don't buy the freaking thing. you are not forced to. But also don't cry like some teen schoolgirl in the parking lot either.

when you are on the net enough. You get to meet the "Mangina's"on posts such as this. get in that two cents how can't afford. or way too high. Or I can do it cheaper. good for ya... now go get you're shine box. I got some Nams you can polish.
wink!
everybody have a good one. And yeah I like to bust balls once and awhile. otherwise this stuff gets boring. it was good to be back in play.. again.RON K.

Good on you. The more expensive the better I always say. Some of the junk that gets posted in this section makes me want to vomit.

Here’s a somewhat scarce 40rd armalite magazine in the carbine.

My father was a career 82 Airborne. He was an sergeant. For a while he had to jump once a month with an M-14. He made over 250 jumps in his career. Sometimes he would get squared away after a jump and find that his M-14 had a bent barrel. When he was in Vietnam he was issued an M-16. I got to talk to him and a bunch of his 82 Airborne comrades about the M-16 before they passed. To a man they loved the M-16 and the 105MM howitzer. They could carry more ammo. They thought it killed just fine. It was much better handling. My father told me he had washed the mud out of his rifle in a shell crater and the gun ran reliably.

I have read all the criticism of the AR/M-16. I have not been in combat. I have no opinion. I like bolt guns in .270 and revolvers. These guys carried the rifle in combat. They thought the M-16 a tremendous improvement over the M-14.

I might feel more of a nostalgia factor if they brought back the original pricing. I think it was somewhere in the $225.00 range for a SP-1 in the 70s.

Never had an interest in one. But I did purchase the saiga sporter in 223 for $259. I did get a big laugh when they called the 223 a varmit round.

Just a picture I took some time ago to depict some Vietnam-era weaponry.

A buddy in town just got one says he was pleased paid $2500 to the door. All I hear it too much. yeah like Ferrari, LAMBO, 2018 Vette. $75,000.00 for daily driver. Caddy Escalade Vintage Harleys, Ever price a 37 Knuckle? Diamonds.and high Maintenance gals..Remember the days of $500 buck Mod 29's..And guys did complain. Now today they get $3,000.00.I think some pizz and moan too much on everything. Buy it enjoy it and be done with it.

When I sold off my P-38 collection some said kind of Pricey. now today everyone who did not buy from me asks hey have any left I got me some cash and want some nice original stuff.

Nuff said enjoy Life and all you get with it.RON K.

the rollmarks look great on those. the brownells repro, despite not having colt markings has that weird rounded font thats engraved or however they do it.

i doubt you'll be losing money on it.

even if you did, who cares. people dont seem to comprehend the value in actually owning something for a period of time.

i'll be having the steak and lobster... the 50K jacked 4 x 4 truck... the vintage colts and S&W's.... and when i get home the A/C is goin down to 70.

YES Ask anybody who survived Killer CANCER....to step lightly and worry about a gun price. Quick tale.. A good gun friend and personal buddy for over 30 years. Had amassed a great collection, And had ten new in box M16A1's, each worth today a cool $25 grand each. And said to me a few years back. should sell some off, Found out he had it and was gone in six months. Left a few million to the family. He never ever worried about buying no matter what. Left over 100 other guns. All rare and expensive. to say the least he enjoyed them.

When you start worrying about a Brownells and Anderson or to get a Colt.

or look at a nice Python. and buy the Ruger. maybe time to get out of the game altogether. Or maybe you did not fit in to begin with I tell some guys.

So enjoy it all. And if you can't do it. Find a away to do it. Heck this is a Smith Forum..only big boy guns only right?

RON K.

$225 was a lot of of money in 1970. $225 in 1970 is equivalent to $1471 in 2018.

I bought my first Thompson Colt Commercial 1921a around 1975 for $900.00 and a MP-40 at the same time for $500.00, so a $1,400.00 buck layout for two guns. Would be like $6500 bucks today... Same deal to buy those two today in the area of $45,000.00.

It is all in what somebody may want. Guys think nothing on 50 grand for a new truck. or 3 grand for golf clubs. or a vacation of 10 grand. once spent you have nothing to sell to get back, trip done and over.

Took one of those B-17 flights' ten years ago for $425.00, My buddy says you nuts. Was two days pay at the time money well spent. Today guys moan about $900 bucks for a custom Glock.

well enough of buys guns 101.ya can show the guy the Colt Retro. Only a Wise Guy will buy it. And another will cry to you about it.RON K.

I wouldn't mind having an M16A1 like the one I was issued, but I don't think H&R is planning on making them anymore...

Funny you mention H&R had that and a Hydramatic {Commando} the two guys I sold them to still have them. wants over $30 grand for the H&R And I offered the other guy back $20,000.00 for the HYDRA last week. He said no thanks he will hold out for $30,000.00.

so when some say $2500 too much.. yeah sure go buy a faster shooter for over $20 grand and that's a converted SP-1 stuff today. I also was a class three dealer for over 40 years. Don't need any training in that area. Nothing is cheap EVER. The market has left many in the dust forever.RON K.

Looks like they are selling for the same thing I paid $2500 and noticed one or two went on bid between $2500 and $2700 and sold. And talk about price haters on the entire net forum's. WOWSERS Yet probably the same guys Own other Colt, Smith & Wesson. And many other things. Trucks Cycles car's still over priced. And lose a few grand the minute its off the lot. Colt will sell for $2500 now and will be the same next year if not more. Just sold a 80's SP-1 for $1200 bucks And the new buyer said I could buy a Brownells. But knew the Colt would keep him happy.

At SAR show this year will have on display a full auto M16A1 and the Retro. tagged $2,500.00 and $25,000.00. Let the public decide.
Should be very interesting to hear the comments.

Normally a 12 ham sandwich eaten, Kill them all t-shirt wearing, sweaty headband with Rambo tattoo with a slung over his neck Bushmaster AR with wife two kid baby stroller will have all the good comments.
ha ha.. Humor for today guys have fun.. I have to sell some guns.

Are early M-Forgeries retro yet? If you squint real hard this kinda sorta looks like a CAR-15.

So, I'm recently back in the AR game with that one. I still need an A1 clone to replace this one I built years ago and foolishly parted with:

I parted with so much in the past 30 years you could fill a small warehouse.
That was a nice looking one you sold off. With us NAM ERA guys hitting 65 to 70 and some a little older now. Guys that went in 1965, Wanting the rifle or builds back the market has jumped. Funny thing basic was a M-14, and even NCO School. But later a M16A1,Sold off the M-14, and still kept up with the M-16'S.

for the last days the retro will keep me happy.
nobody forced me to buy it but a Sprinkle Pony came to me one night and said get it. Probably by end of year you won't see many for sale.Like the U.S.M.C. Colt Marsoc 45's

Glad at least you have a nice M4A1. RON K.

The maintenance problem was partly created by the folks at Springfield telling troops the rifle was "self-cleaning." Another drawback to the ill-advised switch to ball powder was the high level of calcium carbonate mistakenly believed needed for long term stability. There was some benefit in extending barrel life on machine guns but it clogged the M16 gas tube in as little as 3000 rounds. LSA was the answer to a lot lubrication troubles. Still, in Viet Nam as late as 1970 we were still cutting up underwear for patches and using diesel of JP-4 for solvent more often than not. There was plenty of almost everything the base camps. Getting ot out to the troops in the field was another matter altogether. And as for untrustworthy junk, it is likely you never made the acquaintance of the M73 machinegun. It has to be the absolute nadir of Springfield's dismal small arms development after WW2.

I picked this up recently; a 1983 Electroless Nickel Sp1. I also have an original 1981 SP1 carbine (sorry no pics currently).

I think it’s cool that Colt is offering this product, not everybody can find an original SP1. They might be available second hand in a few years time.

Problem here in Switzerland is that you can occasionally find 1970ies SP1 for 1 to 2’000. Same with 1911, old nice second hand ones are cheaper than new ones.

This 1976 one sold for 1350 (scope is no name Chinese).

Another nice 1973 with Colt 3X scope sold for 2000 at auction recently.

The other problem is that I’ve been stupid enough not to snatch one yet. My time will come.

My son built this for me several years ago. He used one of those M16 parts kits that was available back then. Parts from a repatriated M16.

I just can't justify the price tag on a new one, but I really like the vintage stuff. I have to settle for piecing them together myself, and am happy even if they aren't 100% correct.

Since others are putting up pics, here are mine:

SP1 I put together:

Debating whether or not to swap a forward-assist upper onto this one:

A 607-ish build I'm working on. A malfunction during milling when I was removing the lower portion of the mag release fence did some cosmetic damage to the Aero guinea pig lower, don't look too closely!

Neat stuff there. And at least you have some and enjoy them. That is what it is all about to relive a good memory,Have something you had before.

and experience some gun history. Never said they are for everybody. And at some point i am glad they are not since by now they would all be SOLD OUT! And price by next year might take a jump.

I think I was issued a Colt twice in my 8 years of service. The first one was at Ft.Polk when I was issued a M203, that lasted about 6 months then I turned it back in and was issued a Hydromatic. The 2nd one was during the Light Leaders Course at Ft Benning it was a XM16e1. All the other time it was either a H&R or GM.
