Default Beauty and the Beast of pump shotguns

The Remington 17 might be one of the most beautiful pump shotguns ever:

The Winchester 97 12 gauge riot is a beast:

(Tongue in cheek & in my most snobbish tone of voice)

Oh, how sweet Bushy. You are correct as it being the most beautiful of pump guns...which are all ugly. I don't even own a disgusting proletarian pump shotgun. Mine are proper doubles. Oh well, ta-ta.

....nice pumps!

God bless,
Birdgun

Humbug

Just look at what I have to put up with on my doubles

Two triggers, two barrels with different chokes, those bumpy things where the receiver meets the breech and the uneven color on the case hardened surfaces. They even have sinister lefty friendly safeties.

I don't even know why I bother responding to your post

I think the Remington 870 wingmaster English Field was the most beautiful pump shotgun ever and the ugliest was the NEF pump.

The 97 is a beautiful lady...even when she's been cut down into something fast and dirty.

I love that Remington 17. Whether or not you are a pump gun fan, you must admit that the design and craftsmanship from that era is a thing of beauty.

True classics.
funny how the Win M97 was such an unwanted ugly duckling for so long, and then along comes Cowboy Action/SASS and a few movies and all of a sudden they're in demand. Even Chinese knock-offs being offered.

Yes
Like the Ithaca 37, which was delayed until improvement patents on the 17 ran out

Two more examples of the genius of John Browning. There'll never be another like him.

I like the originals better. Norinco sucks. I have tuned my 97 and Norinco and the original runs wild over the copy.

Same can be said if SKB doubles....FML

The Remington 17 was able to be so elegant and graceful because it was designed from the ground up for the 20 gauge shell.
I can't help but think that, in addition to making a fine piece of firearm machinery, Mr. Browning was trying to achieve the perfect blend of form and function in a pump shotgun.

The Remington model 17 is still my favorite shotgun. My grandfather bought it brand new in 1929 , he was a big quail hunter . My dad gave it to me when grandfather passed , dad was a 16 ga. man and didn't want a 20 ga. but I love the 20 and the model 17...it's just right !

I think the best are the Win. M-12 and Rem. 870 and Ithaca M-37, especially in high grades, and the Miroku copies of the M-12 for Browning and Winchester.

The ugliest were the Mossberg and the Stevens guns.
