Default Picked up a Kahr CM9 - Updated with 1st Range Report

I picked up a Kahr CM9 with the the front night sight today. I had one a while ago and sold it but ended up regretting it. I have since sold most of my semi autos and shifted to revolvers so I figured a Kahr with a smooth revolver-like trigger was a must have. I found one on grabagun for a great price and it arrived today. It's been cleaned and made ready for its first trip to the range.

The main squeeze carries one of those and I wouldn't want to be the fool that tried to bother her.

It would be short and loud.

I love mine. They are so light I really enjoy wearing mine. I have a Techna clip on it and carry is easy.

I mostly shoot 124gr lead bullets for practice and use Fiocchi 124gr JHP's for carry.

Kahr - Conceal Carry Belt Clips | Techna Clip

Nice pick up, I'm a big fan of Kahr triggers. I've carried a K40 for nearly 20 years, but I'm not so young anymore and it sits heavy on the hip. Been thinking I'll retire it and get a CM9 or one of their tiny 380s instead.

Bought a PM9 back in the late 90's when it was about the only 'tiny 9' out there. It was expensive, and I'll never get my money out of it.
It's been my regular Summer carry ever since. Just no reason to switch to any of the other little 9's that later flooded the market.
But, in my experience, adhering to Kahr's recommended break-in period is crucial.
Inside the first 200 rounds out of mine, I was ready to throw it in the creek. Lots of malfunctions that eventually just disappeared. Now it shoots and functions fine with everything I've tried.
Enjoy.

What's the difference between breaking in and shooting?

I had a CW9 years ago. Took it to the range and shot it! Performed fine. Ended up trading it because their grips are just too small

I've carried a Kahr P380 for years. It runs like a champ and has the same great trigger as your CM9. I have thought many times of moving up to the 9mm but, for pocket carry with the light Florida clothing the 380 works.

I love my LCP but some of my cargo pants and shorts have some big pockets. Keep thinking about a CM9 to fill them pockets. grabagun.com has them for just over $300. That's tempting.
I had a Kel Tec PF9 that worked 100%. Traded it off when I bought the LCP. One of those "should of kept that one". CM9 is a much more refined pistol and should more than make up for it.

My wife and I both got CW 45s. She later got a Ruger LC9s but was concerned about forgetting the the manual safety if the stuff hit the fan. She has packed a revolver for over 40 years. She traded it for a CW9. We did the drill and fired 200 rounds through each of them with never a hiccup.

Straight shooting guns with smooth revolver like triggers.

We carry them daily.

Good buy! I have had zero problems with my CM9, and I installed a front night sight on it. I can't think of any downsides to it; the mags are a little tricky to eject but I'd rather have that than premature ... umm ... ejection ...

There's no difference. The CM9 I previously owned took about 75 rounds before it would consistently go into battery after firing. Just had to bump the back of the slide until the 75 round mark or so. Not every round but quite often. The same thing happened with a Kahr 380 I owned for a while. The Kahr's are really tight out of the box...at least that's my experience.

But once they break in they run like a top in my experience. The thing that surprises me most about Kahr's is the lack of perceived recoil versus comparable offerings from other manufacturers. I don't know how they do it but the CM9 is as pleasant to shoot for me as a Shield.

The mags are my least favorite feature on Kahr's. I haven't had problems with them but they feel a bit fragile and don't lock in with as tight a feeling as I'd like...but they have always worked which is the most important thing!

A truly GREAT little gun ! I've carried a PM9 off & on now for at least 15 years. It allows you to be armed without the excess bulk & weight of a larger weapon, but yet still can handle 9mm+P loads. IIRC, the 9mm Kahr's
were designed by Justin Moon around a 115 gr. load, so they tend to function the best. However, most will function just fine with 124's & 147's, but I would absolutely run 50 rds of each just to confirm. Remember, ALL Kahrs tend to require @ 200 rds or so to 'break in', as per factory intstructions. If you choose not to follow that advice, shame on you ! In closing, my little PM9 is one of my most accurate 9's in it's class, even with it's 3" bbl. Break it in, & it should serve you well, provided proper ammunition choice.

Best, dpast32

My CM-9 has been my carry gun for a few years. It's a little heavier than the S&W 642 I used to carry, but is flatter. I use Underwood Xtreme Defender 90 grain ammo in mine. I had to adjust one magazine to get it to drop free (squeezed it in a vise), but the other magazine was good to go from the start.

I got a CM40 a few months ago. Great trigger, pretty accurate for such a small gun. Been carrying ever since. It's my pocket carry warm weather gun. Same dimensions as the CM 9 except width and weight. If you want a pocket carry that has power, these two are the answer.

Not bloody likely!! She out shoots me on a regular basis, and has won "tommyhawk" throwin' contests in 5 states.

I walk a very straight and narrow path.

Of all the 9m/m pistols without a thumb safety the Kahr is my favorite. With the long, smooth trigger pull, I'm more comfortable and feel safer with it than any other semi-auto pistol with no thumb safety.

That no safety and long trigger pull is what got us going on the Kahrs.

Easier transition from 50 years of packin' a revolver.

My primary carry gun is a Kahr K9. I've also got a CW9. Love Kahr trigger. I see a CM9 In my future.

Default KAHR

Nice Kahr. I wish I could shoot those quality pistols; but something about the design of the trigger guard and my big mitts doesn't work. My trigger finger gets beat up even when I shoot 1/2 box through the P380 I owned a few years back. Good luck to you with your fine CM9

I have the Car CM 40 super duper mini terminator hand cannon 9 thousand and its okay so far. One huge problem that I have with it is the magazine keeps falling out of the gun while I shoot it. Anybody else have that problem? I think I keep inadvertently hitting the mag release button but Im not for sure on that yet.

I've been considering a super deal on a pm9. I decided against it and bought another 442 after years without one. After 131 rounds through the 442 and a bloody finger tonight I'm reconsidering the pm9

I have put about 400 rounds through various Kahr firearms and have never experienced a mag falling out. Inadvertent hitting of the mag release would certainly do it. Or, maybe it's a magazine problem. Does it nay happen with one mag?

If the 442 doesn't work out you might consider a Ruger LCR 357 if you're more of revolver guy. I love the trigger and carry it more than any firearm.

Of course, the Kahr is a nice option as well.

I have a PM45, and as you say, a nice carry piece. If you find a revolver with a trigger pull that sweet, sell your kids into slavery, if necessary, to buy it

That said, after all these years, I still get puckered up trying to rack it. There is zero over travel in the slide, and the ejection port is only about a millimeter longer than the cartridge.

I bought a PM9 before the CM9 came out. It is well worth the bucks. Mine was used and already broken in. Never had a malfunction and I have had it now for 7 or 8 years. I hit 3 out of 5 8" steel plates at 50 yards with it the one time I tried (I was shocked). I am an old revolver guy so the trigger feels natural to me.

I use a Pearce pinky extension on the magazine so I can get a third finger into my grip ($8). When I carry it I also carry a spare 8 round magazine.

Default Kahrs, Kahr mag release spring

Have had 4-5 Kahrs in the last 20? years. Started with a K40 but it was heavy little brick and made the transition to a P model. My road with Kahr is filled with service/ reliability problems and I have had 2 replacements by Kahr due to serious issues. I have never been lucky enough to get a good one from the "get go". The current resident is reliable as far as feeding/firing but as usual something broke...in this case the trigger spring/return apparatus. Sent back to Kahr and got in return what I`ll call the "New York" trigger(not what I had)that has a very long pull and only breaks in the last tiny fraction before running out of trigger pull...it`s OK if that`s what you want but I preferred the earlier break on "all" the others.

As to the mag release spring I`ve replaced 2 over the years, one I did myself which took up a sweaty, cussy 30-40 minutes and another done by a gun shop employee which took maybe 30 seconds. Those springs can go weak. The replaced springs had an immediate positive effect. You can order the spring(maybe you`ll get lucky and they will send one) and take it to a gunshop that has a Glock armorer and I think you will get the 30 second install. Good Luck, John

Wow! You've had more than your share of problems with Kahr pistols. Looks like you got one each of every lemon they ever made!

Indeed I do think so...and they didn`t pay the freight(in the earlier years)...I`ve spent enough with Fedex/UPS to buy a gun. I don`t think I`m the only one though as they originally offered a lifetime warranty but have decreased it to 5 years . Was always scared to trade it(whichever one) as I didn`t want to feel responsible if the next poor person should lose service at an inopportune time... not that I may have known about it.

Finally got the CM9 out to the range this morning. I put 78 rounds through it with barely any problems. I used 124 grain ammo only using both a 6 round flush magazine and a 7 round extended mag with extension.

At about the 50 round mark I encountered a couple of failure to feed malfunctions. I broke it down and wiped everything down, then reassembled it, and then ran 26 more trouble free rounds through it. The only other problem I encountered was the extended mag pinched my pinky finger if I gripped it tight..so I adjusted to a two finger grip with a looser pinky grip and that problem went away.

I did install a Hogue Handall Jr grip sleeve, which really helps with getting a good purchase. It amazes me how little the felt recoil is on such a small, light pistol. It's extremely comfortable for me to shoot. Accuracy is good when I do my part. It surprised me how well I shot when taking my time to shoot and really focusing on my trigger control. Speeding up caused my accuracy to suffer as I tended to yank that long pull a little bit but that will improve with more practice.

My first impression is a big thumbs up. Only about 125 rounds to go on the break-in. I really don't expect any more bobbles.

I think the magazines, especially the 7 rounders, are the weakest link in the system.

I agree on the 7-rounders with grip extensions. They are good enough for range use but I'll stick with the flush 6-rounders for carry.

Good news! I only have 50-rd thru my CM9 - with no problems. Kinda-sorta related, I had some light strikes on one trip with my CT-380 - so I cleaned the striker channel (as best I could) on it and they went away. I wound up selling the CT-380 though b/c of the horrendous recoil spring effort. The slide on the CM9 seems noticeably easier to retract. I like my CM9 alot and it's quite the handgun for $350.

FYI, I shot S&B fmj the first 52 rounds, then Freedom Munitions XTP the next 13, and Federal HST the last 13. All 124 grain standard pressure.

My CM9 loved the xtp!
