How do you 1911?
We all know that John M. Browning's amazing invention, the .45 Auto pistol, is simply one of the greatest machines ever developed. How many things from early 1900s remain in use virtually unchanged from the original? Only better steel and a few minor changes in ergonomics separate the early ones from todays "modern" 1911s. You can be a fan of Colt, Sig, Smith&Wesson, Kimber, Ruger and a dozen others and still have a 1911.
I'll show you mine if you'll show me yours! Two Kimbers, an old school Classic .45 and new 9mm Target II. And a sweet new Ruger SR1911. Love is a warm 1911.

Three, all in the safe. A 1966 unfired Colt Government, a Sig Traditional two tone, and a 1911ish Sig P938. I have owned many others....

Colt Government Series 80 stainless
Colt Commander LW
Springfield Armory Ultra Compact
And my newest just purchased yesterday;

I have owned one other, a Springfield Armory GI. Nice pistol, my son has it now.
I can't post pics right now, I can't get photobucket to work for the last week or so.

Down to two but one of those makes up for it.
A RIA basic model that I had Heinie install new sights on.
And a decommissioned Marine SPECOPS M45A1 that was issued into the 2nd Marine Raider Support Battalion.

My favorite is an Argentine Modelo 27, in 11.25MM. Looks like it has been dragged behind a jeep.. Fame slide etc is original, the rest is from Wilson combat. My most accurate 1911A1. Hard to believe that when I bought it they were going for $175 for a select grade..

1943 Ithaca M1911A1
Packed December 7, 1943 (two years after Pearl Harbor)
Shipped December 11, 1943 to Commanding Officer, Augusta Ord. Depot, Augusta, Georgia
I shoot it sparingly at my trips to the range
5 rounds at 5-6 yards with a 6 o'clock hold:

Bushmaster1313, while looking at your 1943 Ithaca serial numbers something sounded familiar to me. I have it's younger brother off by about 6800 numbers.Mine doesn't look as nice as yours though. Frank

For as much of a fan of the 1911 as I am, I only have 3:
Series 80 .45
Delta 10mm
9mm Competition model- that one has been getting the majority of the range time. My ladyfriend is beginning to understand what makes a 1911 special.
I'd like to run into a used Springfield EMP4.

Definitely one of the most fun guns I have. RIA 22TCM/9mm/ 38 Super. Wonder if JMB ever realized how versatile the 1911 platform would be. Thought I was pretty satisfied with my hand guns I have on hand, until I found out Ruger is building a 1911 in 10mm.....don't know why, but it got my attention.

How do I 1911? I like Colt's of course, and Kimber, Sig and Springfield. Lately it's been with Dan Wesson. They make a quality built 1911, in many variations. All good.
ECO 45
V-Bob 45 with Elk Grips
Silverback 45
Specialist 45
And my retirement Colt XSE 45, engraved by Phil Quigley

I have had over 40 M1911's. The earliest was a 1912 M1911 to a Colt M1911 Series 80. I have taught marksmanship with the M1911A1, taught Combat Pistol (ala Gunsite styled course by the Corps) and shot Bullseye and IPSC with the M1911 for 48 years. I still own one M1911 and that is a Series 70 Gold Cup (original Series 70) with a Colt Conversion Unit in .22 LR. This gun will go to the grave with me.

I transitioned from 1911s to Sig 220/245s in the late 80s to meet my .45 caliber needs.................... that said every true shooter/collector/accumulator needs at least one............ mine is a Sig C3 CCO...... Officers frame mated to a Commanders upper.....IMO the perfect combo for .45 caliber..... cocked and locked concealed carry.

Frankly, I dislike the bells and whistles. The original 1911 and 1911A-1 would be ideal if made in modern stainless steel.
I especially dislike grip safeties with that duck's tail look and hollowed out triggers.
I'd limit my selections to Colt, Remington, and Springfield.
My most accurate was a Gold Cup made in 1966 and the nicest was a .38 Super, about 1935-36. VERY smooth action, Match grade, but fixed sights.

Thank you for the compliment. I completely agree. In fact, I do well mostly with just the one. The one on the bottom sees most of the work. The top one is just for fun.
And I am a "function over form" kind of shooter.

A Sgt. that worked for me bought one of those and had a lot of trouble with the slide and frame galling. He tried all the different lubes he (and I) could think of at the time. Finally he soaked it in 30 weight motor oil and shot it. VIOLA --it worked and shot well there after.

I had a few in the safe a while back. Still have the SR1911 and P938.

I have had a few over the years: Colt Delta Elite, Colt Gold Cup, Colt Light Weight Officers, Springfield Lew Horton Night Compact, Para P-10, RIA 10mm. Right now I just have this one: S&W Scandium Commander.

I'm sure many of the 1911-type copies are good quality pistols. However, aside from various collectible WWII pistols made by non-Colt manufacturers, Colt remains the desirable standard and probably continues to retain the overall highest resale value.

No Collectables, just a few shooters. Baer, STI, Kimber, Dan Wesson and Colts, in calibers 9MM, 38 Super, 45 ACP.
Please forgive the ones in the photo that are mere copies of ~*~COLT~*~. They are unworthy, unworthy I say

Rock- Merely a statement; not intended to offend. I have a plain stock Springfield Armory I bought new twenty-five years ago that will shoot about as well as any of my Colts, maybe better than a couple.
