I vacation in Maine every year and have a mega hunting /sporting goods store that I visit. They have a used gun selection that dwarfs any LGS that I frequent. In recent years, they have been posting some of their used inventory online.
The pickings ,in my collecting interest, have been less than stellar in the recent past. Well, this time I found two that intrigue me. It just so happens that these are the only two Colt revolvers listed on the website. Since, they have several thousand guns on display, that doesn't necessarily mean that this is all they have by any means.
I put a "hold" on both of these until I get up there in a few days.
1) Colt New Service .45 Colt circa 1907. 7.5 " bbl.
I'm told by a friend of mine ,who is an authority on this model, that only 5% of New Services were made in nickle and the 7.5" is not the most common barrel length to boot.
They said this was a "local purchase" .
So, it may have been in the Northwoods for a long time:
2) Colt Police Positive .32 from 1922 with agency markings:
This one comes complete with the worn trigger guard from carry in an early Audley security holster with the metal flange release.
I'll be the first to admit that this not my favorite way to discover these (IMHO) hidden treasures. Previewing them online just doesn't quite compare with going into a dusty pawn shop and finding a Heavy Duty marked on the sales tag as a "Model 10" on the bottom shelf among the banged up Lorcins and High Points.
But, these two both have stories to tell......
Best,
Charles
