I had one about a decade ago. I loved the idea but execution wasn't great. I had trouble with mags, and ended up with only one magazine that was reliable out of five.
It was very accurate and recoil wasn't bad. I kept it for about 6 months and made a few hundred in the sale.
The best thing about it, in my opinion, was that (my version anyway) fit in my 4506 holsters and shared ammo with a lot of my revolvers and lever actions.

I had one for a while. I loved the gun but also had a lot of magazine feeding problems and the grip was a little to big for me and I have fairly large hands.

I have one of the original Coonans with the 1911 style linked barrel. I've had it for 25 years and shoot it occasionally. Works well with 180 gr jacketed bullets. The older coonan's were like some of the smiths, you needed to find a load it liked and stick with that load.

Thumbs up

Don't own one, but have shot the Coonan. Factory 357 158 grain was 100% reliable, but the factory 110 grain .357 didn't quite have enough Umph to cycle the slide without malfunctions. Stovepipes, etc.

My thoughts: Bigger than the 1911 types I'm used to, recoil was very comfortable and seemed very linear as compared with say a 10MM S&W 1006 or similar pistol, Recoil seemed less than 10MM to me. Very subjective though, owner thought the Coonan recoiled more than the 10MM. Overall I was impressed, enjoyed shooting it, and could see myself owning one........ymmv

When I worked at an LGS/Indoor Range, got to shoot a late-model one belonging to a customer. His came with two different recoil springs - one for .38 +P, and the other for magnums.
Got to shoot it with both. Accurate, fed/ejected nicely. I was impressed.

Just IMO, they seem awful expensive considering I have more than a few revolvers capable of sending that very same ammo downrange.

Got one years ago with the intention of building a 22 jet semi auto. Got it done and enjoy it when I think to take it out. Good shooting 357 too.

I have been researching the new mot 45acp model. I like the idea of the link less barrel (my 945 has that) & even the pivoting trigger. Back in 2015 some of the 357 slides cracked that was blamed on a bad batch of steel but it was mentioned are they cast & not forged? Their warranty is unspecific as to the length of it. It looks like the 45 takes 1911 mags but not mentioned. The 357 model doesn't sell at all on GB at all. I think for at least right now I'm going to steer clear
