Got another Ruger LCP
I had an LCP a few years ago - I liked it but I wasn't supposed to carry it since it wasn't an approved POW. I did anyway, but when the friendly FedEx guy who came to the office every day said he was looking for one for his wife I sold it to him at a slight loss.
I'm retired now and can carry what I want. My pocket gun needs were met by my little FN .25 ACP so the LCP wasn't really on my radar. Then my left-handed son announced he was going on a road trip to Idaho over the 4th of July weekend, and asked to borrow a pocket gun so he wouldn't have to carry his HK USP Compact or Remington 1911.
It was a confluence of perceived need and opportunity. The FN is a decidedly right-handed gun, and a local cop-shop had a used Ruger LCP in the case for $200 OTD.
I went there today, negotiation skills set on High. It turned out the little Ruger was brand new with the box and goodies, not a PD turn-in or evidence gun. 200 bones seemed like a good deal. Bud's has them for $206, but here in CO an FFL will generally beat me up for 30-40 bucks, so I just bought it.
It looks like every other LCP 1 in the world, but here are some pictures anyway.
Its bigger than my FN .25, but lighter.
My lefty kid and I will try it at the range tomorrow, then he should be good to go.
Any other fans of the Elsie Pea?

I have friends who carry them and are happy with them. I've thought about grabbing one for when my Model 36 or Kahr PM9 is a little too big.

I got the LCP for $199 just before the LCPII came out and while I prefer my 340 M&P for EDC, the LCP works better when I wear a suit or dress slacks (not that often).

It's hard to beat for a mailbox gun or when you're in shorts and t shirt because of the heat.
Not much else drops in the pocket with more horsepower as easily.

I collect Smiths but I carry an lcp. I shoot it well, it's no more trouble to carry than a phone, and I don't worry about sweating on it.

Congratulations. I think you'll be pleased. I pocket carry my LCP regularly and have been impressed with its shootability <7 yards.

Been carrying Elsie daily for 8 years now. Accurate at 7 yds. Loaded with HydraShoks. Not a range gun but fills its purpose well. I have the LC9, which is a great gun, just doesn't carry as well as Elsie!

The LC9S I have is the same size as my G 43.
Can not beat the LCP for pocket carry. A couple spare mags and summer carry is no sweat.

Ruger hit a home run with the LCP. One of the smallest and lightest and most reliable in it's class, no sharp edges and and no miniature safety controls to fumble with.
I paid around $300 years ago. Over the past year $200 has been the sales price. Great bargain on a great pocket gun.

For me, mine was a trigger-finger pincher so I traded it for a BG380 to get away from that and to get a safety. Have yet to find a reliable BG380. I think I will give up on that. A case of going from bad to worse.
I like your excuse of helping out the left-handed son. That's a new one. Very creative!

I have had my LCP for awhile and it is a great pocket gun. The only thing I did was get the Hogue grip sleeve. It makes for a totally different gun. It just seems to fit better.

Ruger does make good firearms. The only striker fired pistol I own is a Ruger Custom LCP, I carry it around the farm. I bought it because I could not find a good used PPK. It will be my only striker fired pistol.

I find mine to be easier to hit with than most J-frame set-ups. And small enough to hide in a bathing suit (I'll spare you the photos).

How is the left handed clip working out for you?
I'm also a south paw and thinking about installing one.

A few weeks ago I started a thread about "never say never." I said I would never, ever, under any circumstances carry anything less than a 9mm. Well, I ordered an LCP from from PSA for $199 with free shipping, then tried it out and my Kahr PM9 stays at home most of the time now.
A week after purchasing my first LCP, PSA then marked them down further to $179 with free shipping, so you guessed it, I now have two LCP's. Two quick observations: I purchased the 13lb recoil spring and tooless takedown pin from Galloway Precision and could not be more pleased. I've also found that counter to much of our handgun training to manage the trigger pull and control the LCP I get as much of my trigger finger in there as I can and the groups are tight and they both shoot point of aim every time.

All the LCPs I have seen are hammer fired, it's just buried well down in the slide/frame.

I have been wanting one for a while now. The only ones I see are LCP 2's.
Dealer told me they were an improved model..

I like it a good deal, though I should note that I only use it clipped in conjunction with a behind-the-trigger block (akin to the Saf-T-Blok). Also, since the mag release side of the gun is presented to the world in this configuration, I have to take some little bit of care not to inadvertently trip it by brushing against something during the day.

As much as I fancy myself a "revolver guy" the LCP is a great weapon for such a small package. Carry one often.
I shoot mine as well as my j-frames most days...of course they aren't as cool as j-frame though

All went well at the range. I put 50 rounds of cheap Tula steel cased ball and another 50 of mixed Winchester ball and Hydra Shoks. I had one failure to eject with the Tula early on, smooth sailing after that.
I normally don't shoot closer than 50 feet. I kept them on the silhouette, but barely. I reeled it in to 21 feet and left it there.
The ball shot low, or maybe it was me. The Hydra Shoks shot to point of aim.
I usually stick to ball in these little guns but for now I'll load with the Hydra Shoks.

I have had great results from Hornady 380 ACP Auto Ammo 90 Grain XTP in my LCPs. They are the perfect throw it in your pocket always carrying gun. They are accurate enough and easy enough to shoot at spitting distance. I love mine. It rides as a primary or as a BUG almost everyday.

Here in the 'Garden State' (NJ) getting handgun purchase permits is a real hassle, and we have to wait 30 days between each handgun unless we fill out additional paperwork - which I DON'T want to do. 1st I got an M&P 45 Shield - in time for the rebate. Next will be an LCP2 - which I'll pick up in a few weeks. Then a J-frame. I'm looking forward to the little .380!

Well, I couldn't find a purple one, so I had to settle for black.
I looked at both the LCP2 and the old LCP and I didn't see enough to justify the difference in the price to me. The trigger was better, but this isn't to be a target gun, just a "GET OFF ME" gun. Something to slip into my pocket when I don't really want to carry a gun.
I was disappointed that they didn't have an extra magazine with it. Tighten up Ruger. Charge a few buck more if you have to.
I don't have any pictures but it looks just like the OP's.

In a race to the bottom people look at the initial price of ownership and by only including one mag they are able to keep these little guns moving. If you shop around you can get the 7 rounders for right around $20.
At their current price of under $200 they are a steal.

I had a LCP for several years, long enough it was in the original recall. It was always reliable. I recently handled a LCP2, and went out and bought one. The grip is enhanced and sits better in your hand, and the sights are improved considerably. Mostly the trigger reset is drastically improved and the trigger pull somewhat improved. After a couple boxes of ammo through the LCP2, I sold the original LCP.

I considered buying an LCP and gave both models a great deal of thought and examination in the LGS. I was turned off by the fact that the hammer seems to be in a cocked position at all times, not something I would be comfy with in my pocket.
Any comments about my concerns, please? Thanks in advance.

In the Mk1.5 version of the LCP Ruger changed the geometry of the operating system. As a result the hammer sits differently and it is partially cocked. When you pull the trigger it moves back quite a distance before the sear releases, so I reckon it is safe.

I live in a state that doesn't issue carry permits (NJ), but if I was worried about a 'cocked & unlocked' situation, I would just keep the chamber empty I know that means the need for two handed operation to make the gun usable, and the added time and thought needed, but that would solve the risk.

Had original lcp 7 years 1000 rounds no failures of any type.
Got the lcp2 and had failure to extract on sig ammo and ppu. Brass has small lip for extractor to grab the fired case. Four other brands worked fine. Lost confidence sold lcp2 and went back to first model.
Lcp2 hammer is cocked almost all the way back but has a 2nd notch for safety if hammer somehow was to fall. Per ruger

Mike
