Is this a "find"?***PICS ADDED!***
]I'm on vacation in Maine. After a disappointing trip to a mega gun store up here, I went to Cabella's in Scarborough ME.
This gun was previously owned by a former store manager. When he left, he sold this gun to the store. The sticker price was $799. After discounts and some haggling, I got it for $699 with an extra set of sights and an El Paso Saddlery Tom Threepersons holster which the current manager has at home and I'll pick up on Friday.
It is a Officer's Model .38 Special with a 5" bbl. and a Mershon grip adapter.
Here are the "spare" sights:
The serial # is 420683. Is the 5" bbl unusual?
DOB please also.
Best,
Charles[/U]

Charles:
I suspect you know this and may just have mis-typed, but that's a Tyler. I can see the T on the left side. Mershon only produced straight-front adapters without the finger swell.

The grips are early and maybe worth a good portion of your purchase price

I think it is. Another good find if you like ice coffee is Aroma Joes back by rt 1 & 5 in Saco. Also a new gunstore in Saco 2A Defence or something like that.

Not only is that a find, it may very well be a steal. Old Colt DA sixguns seem to go for very high prices, especially at the big stores. Those stocks are beautiful!

Charles,
I can't retrieve your pictures, but I think you done well. I recently bought a 4.5" OMT and posted an inquiry on the Colt Forum. The response was that the 6" and 7.5" were standard, and the 4.5" was cataloged only for a very short period. 4" and 5" were available, but never cataloged.
