Camp knife with micarta handles
I'm about 90% complete on this one. High carbon steel, heat treated and tempered. Green micarta scales with a red fiber liner; stainless pins and grommet. I'll be making the leather sheath this weekend.
Retirement is nice and this is a fascinating hobby.

BOY SCOUT KNIVES
2 BSA knives, 1 a Camco the other a Kampking both 5$ at a recent gun club swap meet. A little TLC & elbow grease & amazingly sharp/handy little stocking stuffers for old/new scouts. Real nostalgia items. I WILL have my eyes peeled for more.

Looks great. Appears you're honing your knife making stills very well in retirement. I'm just starting to develop an interest in fixed blade knives. Keep us posted as to finish it up. Thx - PEN

I don't have a Rockwell hardness tester. I'm in the beginning stages of this craft so I use the old file skate test.

Nice work opaul. I like that you put a lot of "belly" in the blade.

Thanks. I didn't use a particular pattern I just sketched out a shape on the 1.5" flat bar stock.
Would you consider this a camp knife/bush knife? It's 1/8" thick with a flat grind but I left the tip somewhat thicker than the belly.

My opinion, I think its an all around good shape. A hollow ground blade might be a little better fine slicer, but I think a fairly thick flat grind is stronger over all, and can take more abuse.
