Would like to see some pics of Contender rifles and the calibers you shoot. What is the length of pull on your rifle also. Are they for hunting or just shooting. Any MGM's or Bullbery and your opinion, accurate???

My frame is mainly for indoor offhand shooting with barrels in 32 mag, 38 special and 22 LR at 50 ft. Thinking of going into the rifle side of the gun. Thanks, Larry

A friend use an Encore rifle in 50 Cal Muzzle loader & 45-70 to hunt Ohio White Tail Deer. Both barrels are more accurate than the shooter! I have given him some of my target 45-70 ammo for practice and the Encore shoots Sub-MOA groups just like my Brownings.

I have 2 Contender actions and about 15, 10 to 14 inch barrels. I would love to rifle stock some of them but the legalities hold me back!

There was a 21" MGM 357 barrel on eBay that ended today, not sure what the end price was. It would have been close to a new one.

Klyde, nice groups. I remember when you shortened the bbls. You had a 44 mag bbl, right? How it shoot?

What is the measurement on a Contender carbine from the trigger to the end of the stock. I have a rifle stock that seems short from eBay. Been thinking of a barrel in .327 since I have all the components here. Larry

I don't have any pics handy but in my safe, I have a SS Contender with a 16.25in .45/70 barrel on it. When I bought the carbine, the dealer had swapped a 16.25in .223 barrel in place of the original 21in .30-30, so I decided to stay with the stubby look when I bought the .45/70 barrel. I haven't shot the .223 in a number of years but did take out the .45/70 last year to let a few round through it. Nice little carbine but doesn't accomplish anything that my M1895 GG can't.

The 21" 357 MGM bbl went high, would rather have one around 16.5" to 18". Need an octagon forend for a 10" bbl, anyone have one??? Larry

I have a stainless Contender rifle I put together a few years ago, it has a 24" full bull barrel from the TC custom shop in .223 rem [1 in 9" I think], it has the Choate stock and forend. The stock has a removable buttplate so you can store stuff it in it, I just have a cheap silver BSA scope on it for now until I can afford some thing better. It shoots 1"-1 1/2" 5 shot groups at 100yds all day long if you do your part.
I also have a 15" Bullberry barrel in 6.5mm x 30 which is 30-30 necked down to 6.5mm, it is a very accurate barrel, I have thought having it lengthened to 16 1/2" by some means [welded flash hider or break and make a rifle out of it.

I also have a semi-inleted walnut thumb hole stock and fore end I bought from Fox Ridge outfitters 10 years ago, I guess I need to do something with it one of these days.
I have a Super 14 barrel in .44 mag That I want to ream out to .444 Marlin, if I have a brake installed to make it 16 1/4" that would make one hell of a carbine! I have the reamer, hmmm

went to the range today with my Contender carbine and two barrels, both had scope changes so needed sighting in. My 21" MGM 357 magnum barrel with 158 gr XTP over 16 grs 296 shot this 3/4" 3 shot group at 100 yds

That's some nice shooting at 100 yds. I'd be proud of that group. Did you get the stock from Boyd's?? Show us a picture.

Last week I took a friend to the club 80 miles away. Took the Marlin .357 lever action and had fun trying to be a cowboy. Also took the Martini Cadet converted to .357 with an octagon bbl. It retains the .310 sights which is hard on old eyes. Still had fun with it and it started to become one of my favorite rifles. Who ever converted it did a nice job restocking it. A scope would help.

Having a short fat stubby bbl built in .327 would be nice. Have all the reloading components for it. Larry

Very happy with that group. I started out with the synthetic(Rynite) TC stock,added a Blackhawk nylon cheek riser and just recently tried to upgrade to a Boyds Salt and pepper lam stock. Mounted the new stock, handled it a bit, then took it back off and put it back in the box. Heavier, longer LOP, fatter in the wrist...i just didn't like it. Traded it off for a scope. I'm back to the rynite and will stay there. I did a krylon camo paint job on the Rynite with three different colors of krylon and a piece of a natural sponge.....Mike

that stock the LOP is 13 1/2"....as far as gun fit goes it's a little short for me(i'm 6'2") but i prefer it that way. After all it is a little carbine.....

Got into the T/C's back in the late 80's. Only have 1 carbine, and it's one that I put together. Rynite furniture, Super 16 barrel in 7-30, and it wears a
2x7 Leupold Vari-X 1. Haven't had it out in close to 30yrs, so need to get it out. I've got one other 7-30 Contender, and it's one most haven't seen. It's an Armour Alloy that I got through TCA when T/C discontinued the finish.

Three contenders with carbine barrels in 7-30 Waters, 223 and a stubbed barrel wildcat 30x38 special. The other frames get used for the 5 pistol barrels.
Two Encore rifle frames with barrels in 243, 7mm 08, 7 Rem magnum and 300 Winchester. All are used for hunting and general shooting. I have been pictureless since a photobucket policy change.

The 30x38 sounds like a neat round, any data on ballistics? What a shame on photo bucket, sure there are some nice pics being held hostage. I still haven't decided on a bbl yet. Watch eBay abt every 5 days and look at the adds out to abt 8-10 days. Don't want to duplicate a Caliber I already have and an outdoor range is too far away to use so I need an indoor round. No hurry, Larry

Any other length of pull measurements? The stock I bought is at 13" but nicely figured.

The 30 Badger is a efficient small game and paper puncher that is accurate with 2 gr of powder up to barn burner with 7 grains. It is within a 0.1 grain of 32-20 capacity in a case that is stronger and easier to find.

Well, my search for a barrel ended on eBay. Won a bullberry 20” bull barrel in .357 maximum. It has the upgrade to a more accurate brand blank and has a rear peep sight and rifle brass bead front. The stock I had is better for a scope so i’m looking for a base & rings. Have a mannlicher forend coming from High Plains Gunstocks, it will end 1” from the front of the barrel. Will post pics when the forend arrives.

Shot it with .38 hbwc, some old .38 factory loads and a few .357’s. Indoors at 50’ is all I had to use and it shot great so far. Larry

My only carbine-length barrel is 30-30, and it sports a 36X scope. I use it for long range cast bullet shooting.

I've been in the market for a 38/357 barrel, any length. (hint-hint)

My 10" 22 Hornet barrel will do this all day long at 100 yards with cast bullets. That horizontal dispersion is from my pulse.
Did I mention I shoot cast bullets?

That is fabulous accuracy from a 10" barrel. That is a nice string!
I admire the dedication that goes along with cast shooters.
I lack the discipline required by it's metallurgy demands.
Wood and propellants are my field of forte'.
As far as .357's, definitely go for the Maximum so you can shoot 'em all.

Bought a carbine in '88 with a 21" .30-30 barrel. Put on a Williams peep and shot a lot of cast bullets. It has proven to be M.O.A. capable when I get things right. Soon after I bought a 21" 7 TCU barrel for it and again mounted a peep and shot a lot of cast bullets. Maybe not quite as accurate as the .30-30 but I never spent as much time on load development. Had a few real small groups with 110 gr TNT's. Then bought a 21" .22 Hornet barrel and mounted a Leupold 4X. I didn't do as well with .22 cast bullets but jacketed bullets will stay under an inch at 100, I've seen groups as small as 5/8". In all I'm real happy with they way they all shoot. Sorry no pictures, can't figure it out.

T/C carbine lover here. Have 223, 300 Whisper, 22lr, and 45-70. The first three I shoot suppressed mostly cause I like it. The 45-70 is an older, ported model, so no can on that one. Would like to get a 45-70 barrel some day (or swap) and thread it for the can as most of my 45-70 shooting is 300 grain lead going slow.
Boyds laminate pepper thumbhole (makes left hand shots harder but I've done it) at 14" pull. Burris BDC scope and Silencerco Harvester can. Had just connected on a groundhog at 290 yards.

Know this started awhile ago but currently have 3 rifle set ups, a 16 inch 45/70 with a folding choate stock, a 30-30 and an MGM 35 remington. Then there are the 13 (I think) handgun setups for the Contender. In Encore, 3 rifles, 300 blackout, 30-06, 7mm-08. Encore in handgun, have 3,with and extra barrel, 7mm-08, 243, 460 s&w and just traded a 22-250 for a 270 with a Witt muzzle brake-should be interesting. Have been a TC fan since the 80's.

Loneagle, how does the MGM Barrel shoot? Thinking of having a .327 or .32 mag rifle barrel made under 20”. Anyone else have a MGM Barrel and are you happy with it. Larry

The target i posted earlier was done with a 357 magnum MGM barrel. 3/4" 3 shot group at 100 yds.

Great choice in caliber, I have a Super 14 in the same. 3 to 4 inch groups @ 100 yards and I'm not what you would call a world class pistol shot. The 10 inch is a 22 match for shooting turtles in my pond.

If you need brass let me know, I have way to much.

The 35 Remington shoots well within my needs and capabilities. Have to spend some more time with it, do prefer to carry the 14 inch handgun in same caliber though. It was a good deal and the first 35 Rem. I have run across in this area.

I have been into contenders for a few years but I just bought my first carbine length barrel to make one into a rifle. I found an MGM 223 barrel that's 16.25 inches long. It's a 1:8 twist and it's got an integral muzzle brake. I would like to shoot the 75 grain A-max out of it. I have over 700 and nothing I'm interested in shooting them in.

I have two frames, one stays a carbine with a 23" bull in a wildcat .17-357 of my own design. MGM chambered it for me and it has shot .6" groups at 100 yes. My other frame stays a pistol with 10" .22 LR, 14" 7-30 for deer, and a 15" bull in the same .17 wildcat. Love Contenders!

I posted earlier here, #30. Not wanting to hijack this thread, but is the Contender action difficult to disassemble? I want to clean mine.

There is a group of guys at my gun range that are in a Contender club and they all shoot Contenders and Encores and one guy I talked to had several beautiful custom made contender rifles. He let me shoot a couple of them and he said his most accurate rifle was chambered for the 7.62 AK-47 round which surprised me. He had a gorgeous custom made over/under 2 shot Contender rifle in .22 Hornet with 16 inch barrels that was really cool looking, has any one else seen any of those? I never cared for single shot guns for some reasons but a 2 shot double barrel would be pretty sweet.

I'd not totally break it down but trigger assembly drop and normal cleaning can be done. There can be tedious moments at reassembly.

I've got some barrels that I load for that near the hairy edge of pressure tolerance for contender. (250 Savage, recently ditched my 444 Marlin)
7.62 should be handloaded in contender to lower pressures.
Would love to see that contender double barrel!
