Default Springfield Mod 2 subcompact 9mm review.

Got a new pistol and took it to the range today with my son, who is the perpetrator of me buying it.

All black. The appearance is great, though the shape is a bit unusual looking. The slide is TALL and the bore axis is pretty high. The grip and frame are cut to allow a high grip to minimize the high bore axis.

The grips are variably textured and feel secure and comfortable. One reason we opted for the black on is that they have 'Grip Zone' emblazoned on the grip. With the tan frame it really looks like toy. Almost like it has G.I. Joe on it. The lettering on the black is barely noticeable. It does allow a high grip and there seemed to be only one way to hold it. The right way.

Didn't need much cleaning, no goo inside and maybe some dust from machining operation and a little wipe and oil smoothed it right up.

Sights are fiber optic front. This is the first time I've used them and I didn't really notice the glow in the sight, I just shot it like I shoot everything else. Smooth, no malfunctions with about 50 to 100 rounds shot.

DAO trigger.........SUPERB. Has a little free travel back but when you get to the release, it's ALMOST like a single action. I was really impressed. Very smooth, too.

It's got some neat features, like a hole in the back that the striker shows through if cocked. And a loaded chamber indicator. Plenty of capacity in this one. About 12_+1 I think.
Ambidextrous mag release, too. Takedown is easy, but just different enough to have me look at youtube for hints.

Only problem. I couldn't shoot it worth a toot. BIG spreads. Though it felt very steady holding and pulling the trigger, SOMETHING must have been wrong with the old technique, I hope Technique can be adjusted. If the gun is that far off it's going to need a factory overyhaul.

VERY pleased with the final product.

What do you call big spreads at what range? How does it shoot for your son?

My buddy has a 1st generation XD subcompact. It does look like a double decker bus from behind compared to a Glock or a Steyr M9. Shot OK for me.

Default 10 yards was the distance....

My son did good with itm but I didn't get to see his target afterward but when he saw mine he said 'THAT'S TERRIBLE'. Like I said, my groups were the size of a big watermelon maybe an oval about 18" low and to the right. The gun grips like glue right where it feels you should hold it, which is high up on that gun, The trigger was so light after a pull about a quarter of the way, then you could feel the sear release and BAM!. The sights were very easy to see,

I sure ain't blaming the gun. I'm not used to the fiber optic sight, maybe I'm not lining up correctly, which would explain part of it. And I must be pulling tot he right almost every shot.

I need to redeem myself!!!!:

Always good to hear about a positive purchase, congrats. You like it and you're pleased with it. Keep practicing with it and as you get more comfortable shooting it your "watermelon" will shrink up to a "cantaloupe" in no time.

I love mine. I color filled mine in white and it looks really nice that way.

As far as you large groups go Its probably cuz you are not used to the high bore axis, this very same thing happened to me when i first got it.

Overall I love mine and its my 9mm carry option and will be for a long long time.

I've got a 1st gen XD-9 Subcompact. These guns are solid and will take any ammo you feed them. Never had any accuracy issues with mine. It sounds to me like you were using the compact sized mag (13 rounds). It may be that you need a fuller grip. Try the 16 round mag next time.

It's the sub compact. I have other sub compacts that I don't shoot too great, but not terrible. Next time I try it I'm going to start from step one and find out what I'm doing wrong. According to the manual I am sighting it right and the trigger is so good I don't understand how it could make me jerk but a video of me shooting will show it.
