Default Remington 1100 Tactical

Got a Remington 1100 Tactical recently:

It's been a GREAT shotgun over several hundred rounds of 12 gauge ammo. So far, it has fed everything from Wal-Mart bulk packs of Winchester and Federal ammo to premium buckshot and slugs. I have tried at least 10 different types and brands of ammo through it and have fired close to 400 rounds with 0 misfires at all.

The 1100 design is somewhat older and is gas operated. It has an o-ring than has to be changed every so often and the guns don't run quite as well after firing a few hundred rounds and they dirty up, or so I'm told.

Despite that I have had perfect reliability with mine and I cleaned it after every 150 rounds or so. It is one soft shooter for sure, making full power buck feel like birdshot out of a pump gun.

I like it enough to get a side saddle and tactical light for it:

With the tube fully loaded with 8 rounds and with the side saddle loaded and the light and sling, it tips the scales at 10.4 lbs but balances surprisingly well. With 16 rounds onboard that is a full pound of lead if running 1 oz slugs! Still not as short and handy as my Remington 870 Police with 18.5" barrel (this 1100 has a 22" barrel) but it provides serious firepower and if I was an LEO I would love to have one in the trunk if need be.

At this point, I really trust this sweet Remington and have pretty much fallen in love with it. Sadly this model has been recently discontinued but I found mine on Gun Broker last month for a price I couldn't pass up. Glad I found it!

Thanks for looking and take care!

Jay

Love the Remington's. I have several but none set up as a tactical shotgun. Might have to consider making one up. Thanks for sharing.

Nice rig,
I like the 1100 over the 11-87, guessing Remington must have got alot of requests to bring it out of retirement.
My only 1100 is currently a Special Field, had the hankering to pick up a new "Classic Trap" model a while back,
might have to put the feelers back out again.

Very nice rig indeed. Also been a big 1100 fan and bought a TB trap model back in 80. Gotta score a LT-20 before next Upland season. Sure do miss those prices for high polished and walnut stocked 1100's of yesterday. Thanks for posting

I was fortunate enough to be one of the last civilian students of John Shaw at his MidSouth Self Defense Shooting courses in 1985.3 1/2 days combat pistol and half day combat shotgun. Best 4 days I ever spent. When I saw him throw 8 clay pigeons in the air and break all in rapid succession I knew I had to fix my 1100 similar to his. The barrel was shortened to 19 inches, threaded for screw in chokes and ported to reduce muzzle rise, and an extended magazine added. I later installed a speed loading latch. It was great! Anything from clays to ducks and deer. Unfortunately it was stolen. I would like to find another one for rebuild.
After using the shortened 1100 I now deer hunt with only compact rifles, Model Seven, Micro Medallion, or Ruger 77 European .
I might have to look for the Tactical

In another thread I mentioned how I have a 1100 gathering dust and thinking about cutting one of the barrels I have for it down to 18.5" for HD.
1100's tend to be a touch heavy (soft shooting!) but dead reliable. O-ring will go thousands of rounds and the gas rings forever. I've seen clean, used ones go for as low as $400. That's a bargain for a great semi-auto shotgun.
