Browning HiPower
Went to the range today to run few mags thru my HiPower. Heard a couple of fellows next to me talking about what I was shooting. One of them mentioned that Browning was discontinuing the HiPower next year.
I can't say that I am up on all the scuttlebut in the gun industry, but have I been living under a rock? Anybody know if this is true?
Should I be paying more attention.
Keep in mind that this is just something I overheard and was not in the conversation.
Looking forward to any comments.
Thank you

Hard to believe they'd drop something this iconic BUT its a real relic in the modern age of pistols - only time will tell. Maybe its just a good rumor by their marketing people so the current inventory is sucked up!!!!!!!!!

I haven't heard it, either, but I'm not exactly up to date, anyway.
JMO, but it sounds to me like you were fortunate not to be in the cpnversation.

Ayoob reports is this month's AH that the HP is being dropped. On Browning's webpage some models are listed as "discontinued". Browning does not make the HP. FN does and I have seen nothing about them ceasing production.

There's a thread discussing this at the Browning owner's forum; a member there states he spoke with a Browning sales VP about the rumor and was told that Hi-Power sales have been lagging for some time and that Browning will continue to produce them through 2017, but that the Hi-Power is on the chopping block for 2018 if sales continue to drop.
Who knows...

I have also heard this news. Quite frankly, I'm not surprised. New model prices I've seen have been up in the Sig P-series and HK realm. The HP sits well in my hand, at least the models I've tried. However, the only thing I remember from firing one some 20+ years ago was the nasty red welt the hammer left on my hand.
As much as I would like to get a HP, I see it more as a base for a custom build rather than carried or shot with little or no modifications. I am nowhere near able to do that. For roughly the same price I could probably pick up a new Sig P229 or P239 that would suit me better out-of-the-box. Plus, for a carry gun I'd prefer a DAO/DAK or DA/SA to SAO.
Just my opinion.

That's true. I'm fortunate to have a little collection of 6 Hi Power classics that will soar in value in the next few years

Went to the Browning owners forum site recommended by Hapworth in a post above. I read everything there and can see what the ado is all about.
Evidently I was living under a rock for many years. These rumors have been around for quite sometime.
Thanks to all for your input on this subject.

The discontinued models on the Browning website are nothing new. They all have been discontinued well before 2017. Nothing new has been discontinued in 2017.
Nothing has been determined yet. Ayoob loves to hear himself speak these days. He has no written proof that Browning is dropping the BHP. Every few years this topic makes the rounds. It has not happened yet but that does not mean it will not in the future. As far as FN ceasing production that it another topic which to my knowledge has not been addresses.
In the end there are so many BHPs in the market right now that I do not see it really effecting the market long term. There might be a bump in sales of NIB but I think the used market, which is the best place to buy IMHO, will stay relatively the same.

I wonder if another importer will take over the FN imports. I don't see them selling any better unless there's a price drop, but that would require a drop in quality I'm sure, making it pointless.
Might be a good time to buy one, it could become the next Snake Gun...
