Absence
The ole saying absence makes heart grow fonder. Thats my case I had a Ruger Blackhawk 44 magnum from 1983 till about 6 years ago. Only gun so far I ever sold. ( on consignment at LG S).My reasoning then was I never shot it . It was always in the safe. I guess my biggest thing was never really like the signal action. My plan was I would sell it and put the money toward A G P 100 .357. Well fast foward 6 plus years I still dont have my G P. Lol I ended up buying alot of differant carrying guns 9mm, 40, 45. The list is endless.Bottom line I miss the ole safe queen. Lesson learned I don't see myself ever selling one in my collection unless its a peformance thing. Lets hear your selling mistakes the ones you miss.

Almost every one of them! Over the past nearly 60 years there have probably been a couple hundred.

Not sold one yet, either. But I'm new to this, compared to most of you.
Though, I did trade one......does that count?

I've been thinning the herd for several years. It started with a list of my 10 favorite guns. Followed by a list of my 10 least favorite guns (out of around 225) So it took about 2 years but all those guns are gone. Over the last 3.5 years I sold another 46 guns. A few of those I miss, but I sent 2 target 22's a 1917 Enfield by Winchester, and an Anschutz Heavy barrel Stainless 22 Hornet & a Bushnell 3200 20x up to Camp Perry, none came home! I took that money paid off CC debt, paid for the last 3 trimesters of my BA, and had pocket money for 6 months. So I miss them but I did well! I sold 2 of my beloved lever actions (these two I don't miss) and my last 375 H&H, that I miss greatly! I also have bought a few so the tally is around 186-188. I'm about to go on another selling spree, I think I'll make a list of the 10 least favorite guns I own. I'm aiming for 150 guns by the time I'm 65, so I have 3.5 years!
Ivan
I am always looking for another gun to buy, especially N-frames and anything that starts with a 4 or a 5!

I've bought, sold and traded so many guns in my misspent life that it's hard to remember many of them (and I'm not kidding, I am sometimes reminded of guns that I've owned by friends or family that I have no recollection of ever owning), the transactions are into the hundreds and hundreds. BUT, there are 2 specific selling regrets that still haunt me, mostly because they're not easily replaced (especially for what I paid for and sold them for).
The first is S&W related. A Model 29, round butt, 3" that was magnported. It had an incredible action and trigger job. It was a special run sold by Magnaport or some other distributor (Lew Horton??). I LOVED that gun and carried it pretty much daily for more than a year. Inexplicably, I sold or traded it away. I'd like to have that one back.
The other was an Interarms Mark X Mauser Whitworth Express rifle in 375 H&H magnum. It was a CLASSIC British safari rifle. Beautiful wood with a hand rubbed oil finish, red recoil pad, 3 leaf folding express sights, the whole package. In the 20 or so years since I let that one get away, I've looked for a replacement, but the ones that I've found have been priced 4 to 10 times more than I paid for that one.
There have been others (A nickle model 19 comes to mind), but those 2 stand out in my memory.

The only gun I sold was a .44 Mag Desert Eagle. Horribly impractical pistol. I still don't miss it.

I don't want to....
I don't want to sell anything...
686 or 5943...... no way in hell. Third gens are more likely to increase in number here.
Sig - most likely not
Mod 36 and Mod 38 "J" frame revolvers. No way I get rid of BOTH of these, especially the 36 and the 38 is my wife's gun.
Taurus - Not my favorite gun but it has a hammer and great DA/SA setup which I DO like.
Shield - most likely not. Good concealable gun.
Springfield XDS Mod 2. Technically my son's gun. It's way too nice to sell anyway.
Kel tec P 11 - decent pocket gun. I've been a little heavy on it using it for experiments, though. But if I junk it, no great loss.
1929 Browning A5 shotgun - family heirloom, not going anywhere.
Kel Tec generation 2000 9mm carbine. I COULD part with this, if I had another carbine in sight.
Savage 110 - About like the Kel tec. Wouldn't get enough to make it worth selling.
If I HAD to trim back, the Sig and the Taurus have no irreplaceable value for me. The carbine would be next because it's strictly a 'fun gun'.
Having to sell any of them would be .
PS: I wouldn't mind adding a 'K' frame to the mix.
PPS: Oh, and a 1911.

Perhaps the most fun piece of non-sense I ever owned, A 50 AE. I got rid of most of the ammo a year later. I had around $1700 tied in the gun and ammo since just before Christmas 1991, it took 2 years to get tired of it and 22 or 23 to unload it! I made about $400 on the whole thing, which puts me about $3000 if I had wisely invested the money!

I've reached the age where I have been thinning my accumulation down some, so the wife doesn't have as much to worry about when I'm gone. (Don't get me wrong, I'm still buying a few that yell out "take me home" from time to time.) I go looking over the lot and see a. What I'm not shooting, b. What I ask myself "Why did I buy that?". c. What I haven't picked up and fondled for several years. I'll cart a couple or three off to one of the local gun auctions held 3 - 4 times a year around here and see what they bring. The cash gets put away in the gun fund for future items that seem to follow me home.

I have sold or traded many guns (I can think of 12 off the top of my head). In all cases I bought or traded into something I wanted more (often too I had another gun serving the same purpose as well or better). So, thankfully, so far I have no regrets (wouldn't do me much good if I did).
