Wanted one of these for a LONG time!!
Be honest. Brand loyalty aside, who hasn't at least thought of owning a Colt Single Action Army??!!
I have wanted a 1st Generation for as long as I can remember.
There has always been a problem. Refinished in trailer hitch chrome, barrel changed, mixed parts etc. etc.
For the past several months, I have been trying to find a shooter grade revolver of any model in .38-40 that I could afford with little success.
Then, this popped up as a "want to sell" on another forum that shall remain nameless.
It had zero finish (that's OK) and all matching numbers as well as "all four clicks ". It is a late 1st Generation from 1920 with a 4 3/4" bbl which is the perfect length.
The seller refurbishes handgun stocks. I have used his services and found him to be an honorable gentleman.
How did I do @ $1550 shipped??

I am not up on 1st gen pricing in any condition, but I don't think you did too bad. I decided to go with a 3rd gen when I could not find a 2nd gen in my range. After looking at prices on 1st gens I did not even bother to try.
The nice thing about most 3rd generation is that they are usually purty.

I think that you did very well. I've wanted a real Colt SAA for years but have never found one at a price that I could afford. I do have 5 single action Rugers plus a single action FIE and a .44 Colt Belgian made single action but alas no Colt.
I do like the .38-40 cartridge as well.
I think you

I think you did good. Looks like a honest well loved gun!
I always wanted a birth year SAA. I ended up with one. It's a SAA New Frontier in 45 Colt.
