When i retired i bought a new RIA 45 acp officers model. It ran like a top right out of the box. Later on i bought a commander size slide and a Storm Lake barrel and fitted em to the officers frame....a homemade CCO. Used a long blued trigger from my parts box, Harrison's retro rear sight and staked in a white dot front sight. I rust blued the slide and controls and left the frame parked....a subtle two tone. I'll see if i can find a pic, not a photographer
What does MIM parts mean? I'm getting old and don't get out much.
MIM = Metal Injection Molding.
Ever heard of a "sintered" bronze bushing? Basically the same process.
Powdered metal is compacted into a mold and then heat and pressure are applied to make it form into a solid piece. Not hot enough to liquefy the metal like casting, but hot enough to fuse it all together.
I've got one in .38 Super. Swapped out the grips for a set of GI M1911A1 brown plastic ones. While I was at it, I swapped the mainspring housing for a GI one with the lanyard loop. Looks right at home in an M7 holster.
