A friend brought me a problem gun. A Turkish Akkar pump shotgun. I'm no gunsmith but I was the best available. He bought it, it seemed to work fine but another guy had broken it down to clean it and the slide rails got stuck halfway into the housing. Nobody could fix it and they had a hissy fit. Finally, he brought it to me and told me what happened. I said, I sure wish I would have seen it taken apart and they had no instructions and said they couldn't find anything on the web.

Well, I looked and found the instructions. Take down was simple but it didn't act the way the instructions said and the rails were REALLY stuck. After I figured out how it worked, I hit it with a rubber hammer and block and it came apart. I cleaned the whole thing pretty well and lubed all the sliding parts with white lithium grease. But it was still hinky trying to get the rails and bolt to go in all the way and would freeze tight. I noticed one of the rails was bent. I studied it and gave one little twist and the rail was straight (surprise). But it was STILL hell to get together and the rails would get stuck every time, but if you did it a little differently it slid right together and worked slick. Perseverance paid off.

The trigger group was really cheesy but everything seemed to work fine. It is a very simple design. I don't know why it was so much trouble.

I suppose that it will shoot, but it looked about the same build as my old Mattel Tommy Gun back in the '60s. If you want a cheap gun, this one is built cheap. He got it at a going out of business sale at Gander Mountain, but I think their prices were about retail. He paid $300 plus some odd dollars for it, maybe he said $350 which would be a rip off for such a cheaply made piece of gear.

Thing is in the local pawn shops their are quite a few Remington 870s on the shelves for between $300 and $350. Also Mosbergs, Winchesters etc. All way better used than an new Turkey.

I just bought a used 870 tactical 12 gauge for $350.00 otd! I do own and shoot a Turkish made 1911 that works okay though.

I have a Turkish escort magnum 12 ga camo combo setting in a closet, when I first took it in on trade I liked it, it ran as smooth as any Remington 1100 that I had ever shot,
however
, I loaned it to my kid brother who was a dedicated turkey hunter and told him not to use any of his hot reloads in it, after about three years he brought it back to me saying that it had suffered a malfunction and he could not get it apart.
and like you I had to persuade it to get it apart. so I could find the problem, it was a broken locking lug on top of the bolt carrier group

I contacted legacy imports and asked them for the broken part and they told me that I would have to send it to one of there authorized repair centers at my expence and would have to let them diagnose the problem and I would get an estimate on repair cost since it was pass its 1 year warranty

I explained to the guy that I had taken the gun apart and was capable of reinstalling the broken part when it arrived I was willing to pay for the part and shipping, but to no avail, so I set it in the corner, and have been watching Numrich waiting for them to get one.

meanwhile I lost that brother last year and if I do find the part I will keep the gun in his memory

There are some older American made shotguns really cheap right now.

Sorry to say this, but every gun shop I've been to lately has had a never ending supply of older American-made pump shotguns that are well priced in the $150-$300 range, and as such, I, as well as others, are more attracted to those than the newer Turkish import shotguns. In fact, this past winter, I picked up a beautiful pre-68 12ga High Standard Flite King for around $125, and currently there is a $200 Remington Model 11 (not a pump, I know, but still a quality gun) that is begging me to bring it home as well.

With that said, your review of the reassembly process and its difficulties is a further vote of no confidence against the quality of some of these imports as well. I will however admit that I have oft contemplated the odd Stoeger or Tri-Star (because I'm cheap, I'll admit it), but I haven't found one yet that I was completely satisfied with in fit and finish for the asking price.

Edit: I perused Akkar's website for a bit, and I am honestly intrigued by their 3 barrel shotguns...

I was given a gun to fix that somebody had taken apart and tried to bang it back together. That bent frame may have been the whole problem. I straightened it out and it LOOK pretty good, but may have still wanted to bind from slight

Bought a wingmaster with rifle sight slug barrel for upstate NY deer hunting. Moved to Louisiana and didn't want to mess up the almost pristine finish on the slug gun. Cost about $220 at the time. Then at a gun show found a 870 riot gun for less than 200 bucks. Covered in rust, 8 hours later all rust was gone , stocks sanded and sealed and 1st coat of tru oil. Month later another 870 riot gun again with the rust for $225. rust gone, stock sealed and tru oil. Guess I like the 870. Frank

No shots for the Akkar. Doc has to prescribe a stinky salve that smells like sulfur, removes all body hair in the affected areas Apply daily and don't bathe for a week. Frank

I bought a Winchester Model 12 in 16 gauge, and in great condition at a local gun shop last year for $200.00.

It seems like an 'ok' cheap gun, but it's not a good value at $300.

There are some fine Turkish pistols out there, Canik and Sar make good CZ 75 copies. Winchester, Weatherby, and others sell Turkish made shotguns with their own names on them. But there are some out there that are not as well made.
When it comes to shotguns, I stick with old Winchesters, Remingtons, and Mossbergs. Tried and proven models that won't let you down.

My Turkish MP5 clone is extremely nice,Very close to my German HK91 in terms of weld quality and overall fit and finish.It's made by MKE who has been making Guns for Hundreds of Years and all the machinery is from the Germans.

Now I feel silly for paying $95 for 1400 round bucket. Although I do love having a bucket.
