Springfield EMP4
I'm considering one of these. Who has one and what do you think of it?

I don't, but I'll be following this thread right along with you!
I handled one recently, and was pretty impressed.

I have handled both the 9mm and .40. Both are the same size. The 9mm is comfortable to shoot the .40 is not. I only shot the .40 once and decided it was not for me, and am not particularly recoil shy. You need to shoot one if possible, only you can determine if you like or not.

Under Consideration
I too am considering a Springfield EMP4 in 9mm only. I like the idea that they have scaled the gun down a bit to fit the cartridge. I think it's a waste to chamber a .45 ACP Model 1911 in 9mm and leave all the dimensions the same. Seems that this practice leaves unnecessary weight and bulk.

I've got a 9mm EMP4, bought it last year not long after they were introduced for my son to use in USPSA and IDPA competition. It's a very nice gun, well fit and finished and nicely appointed when compared to other '1911s' in the same price range. We haven't had any issues at all with it, it has been reliable and accurate through a dozen or so matches plus range practice/training. We shoot 115gr FMJ most of the time. Honestly, I couldn't happier with it, it's worked out perfectly for the intended purpose and I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.
This is the gun after a match next to my Baer Boss, you can clearly see the size difference.
This is my son's competition rig-

You kind of hit on why I want one, but on the other hand, am I correct in assuming all the accessories (grips, holsters, mags, etc.) are proprietary? I don't imagine there's a whole lot to pick from.
Not that it would keep me from owning one!

I have the 3 inch 9mm EMP and couldn't be happier with it. True that regular 1911 parts will not work but I found grips for it on eBay plus with the rebate of 4 free mags you end up with a total of 7. Very sweet to shoot in 9mm. But I believe 40 maybe less so. My 3 inch fits just fine in a holster for a shield 45. that plus the holster I ordered from Lobo and I carry it most days. The only thing is it is heavy for its size but then it is a 1911.

Yes, grips, mags, and a few other parts exclusive to the EMP4 but there are more companies making stuff for them all the time. I know that there are at least a couple of outfits making VZ style grips and I think John Harrison is making triggers and a couple of other parts for them. Commander size holsters will work but they're a bit loose, but companies like Garrett Industries are on the ball and producing gear specific to the EMP4. As far as I know Springfield is the only source for mags but they're excellent quality and really reasonably priced.

That holster is a Garrett Industries Silent Thunder Champion (smooth leather lined kydex) the triple mag carrier is theirs, also. I use the same gear for my full size 1911s, top quality kit.
