A Pair of Colts With Different Ropers
Two recent acquisitions. Top is a Shooting Master in .38 Special with Roper sights. The stocks are original, with re-cut checkering. Bottom is a Camp Perry .22 with Roper stocks.

That's a good looking Camp Perry. Is it the shorter barrel version? I forget which lengths were available but it looks shorter than mine.

Nice set of Colts and a bonus set of Ropers on one. Ever shoot them? Looks like fun to shoot and enjoy the era they were made. Larry

The Camp Perry was introduced (in 1920, but deliveries started about 1926) with a 10" barrel. Late in the production the 8" (like this one) was offered as an option or replacement, depending on which source you read. I prefer the feel of the Camp Perry to an 1891, but always shot the Smith better.

Beautiful old guns. If you have time, tell an uninformed member (me) about the Roper sights, especially that front sight.

Roper made front and rear sights as no machining replacements for Colt medium and large frame target revolvers. I guess he didn't offer them for Smith target models because he couldn't improve on them, which were superior (at least in my opinion, which you should agree with or change forums) to Colt's elevation front and windage rear.
