Been reading all the posts from .32 owners lately. Seems those that have them, love them. I was on the fence about adding another caliber to the reloading gear and finally decided to dive in. Been looking for an older mint SP101 to compliment my SP collection. Saw this three inch, .32 H&R magnum listed on GB from an estate sale. Yellow box, outer numbered liner and all the paperwork.

Picked it up last weekend. Gun dates to 1991. I'd wager maybe a box of ammo at the most through it. Faint turn line and no marks on recoil shield from firing. Gun has probably been sitting since new and was bone dry so I tore it down for a good cleaning and lube.

Gun store was out of .32 H&R ammo (on order) so I haven't shot it yet. My on order reloading dies, cases and bullets arrived on Wednesday. I'll hit a couple other gun stores this Saturday and see if I can grab some ammo for instant gratification.

Got a feeling this may cost me.

That's a good thing about the .32's, if you have no ammo in .32 H&R, get some .32, .32 Long or even .32 ACP. My 16-4 shoots them all, but the ACP accuracy is nothing to brag about though. I reamed to .327 Fed. and the American Eagle 100 gr. are a hoot to shoot. Reloads will likely be even more fun.

I came awfully close (as in saved up the money and tried to order one), but my timing was off. It was between factory runs and there wasn't one to be had anywhere at any price.

I spent the money elsewhere thinking that they would never become available again in my dwindling lifetime... but I was wrong.

Nice catch, have a few guns in .32 long & magnum. The cool one was a 6.5" Contender bbl in .32 mag. Use the T/C as an indoor off hand single shot. Found a fee pistol finger groove style grip for the T/C that took it to another level.

Don't have a .327 yet, enjoy yours. Need a range report on your new gun. You find some neat guns. Larry

I like .32 caliber as well. I have a S&W model 631 in .32 H&R, an old FIE .32 Long and an even older H&R top break in .32 S&W.

Plus an Armi-Galesi model 9 semi-auto in .32ACP.

I'm also firmly hoked on 32's. I have quite a variety of older break top S&W's in 32 S&W, but mostly shoot post war 32 Hand Ejectors and my 16-4 along with a 431PD and a 432PD in 32 H&R Mag. The 100 gr Hornady XTP and a healthy dose of AA#5 is plenty potent, making over 1000 fps from the 1 7/8" barrels and over 1200 fps from the 6" barrel.

I do shoot a lot of 32 Long's with the 98 gr HBWC at target velocities for loads of fun.

I am 64, and have never owned a .32. Did shoot my son's Tomcat. Was not impressed. Given the chance to own a nice 32 S&W, I would probably jump on it! You never know? Bob

A couple years ago I trade a High Standard H-B for a nice 1903 He I-frame Smith with S/W pearl grips. Shoots great (.32 Long) and love the small frame. Wife claims it, but IT's mine. Don't tell her, she would be disappointed and shoot me with her 637...

I've got five .32's and love them all ... three Single Sixes, an SP101, and a S&W 431PD. I wish I could find more!

Welcome to the dark side.... .32s are addictive.

Not that .32 ACP is dangerous to fire in a .32 Long (or longer) revolver, but I have experienced misfires due to excessive headspace. Use for fun shooting only.

I have had the same experience with it. It is not reliable in a revolver but it is an option for plinking.

Day after I won the H&R, a three inch 327 Fed SP101 listed. Gun was like new with plastic box. A 574 series. Right before the bids closed it was at $600 with no reserve. I think it sold right around there. Good score for someone.

Good catch Klyde! I have long wanted one of the 3-inch SP101's just like you have ... or even a 9mm ... Ruger has really missed the boat on .32's lately. They brought out the 4-incher in .327, which I think is kind of a boat anchor for looks. And, the two I've seen over the past few months have been poorly finished. I bet they could sell a boat load of the .327's if they'd bring it back with the low-profile adj sites and 3-inch. For now, I have to contend with a Single-Six in .32HR, a stnls Tomcat and an NAA Guardian in .32 ...

Edited to add: And while they're at it - chamber that same 3-incher in .22Mag with an 8-shot slynder.

I've got some .32 ACP guns but have been resisting adding some nice .32 revolvers because I didn't want to add another caliber to my required inventory, but this post has me considering the .32 revolver. They seem to be undervalued and you can pick up nice ones for very reasonable prices.

To the OP:

Once you start drinking the .32 Kool-Aid you are asking for trouble. You are going to love your Ruger. It's going to make you curious about what a vintage S&W is all about.

If you set out to get a S&W Mod. 16 or a pre-16 you better talk to your banker first.

But here's the wonderful news. The .32 Long was quite popular into the 1930s, and S&W made a boatload of the little I Frame .32s. They still can be found in nice condition and won't break the bank.

I've picked up three in 327. One Ruger Blackhawk and a 4-3/4 and a 7-1/2 Single seven. They are addictive. No decent smith is a available in 327.

Kind of late to the party, but....I have been wanting a .32 Long, but recently ran across a 3" SP that appears unfired in the box for $415 plus tax and fees. I can't wait to get her out of jail. I am in the process of gathering up the components to cook up some hand loads. Any recommendations on powder choices?

I'm also late to this .32 party but stumbled across this 7 months old thread, I figured I'd toss my S&W Model 31-1 into the party mix.

This particular gun has a neat back story in that the serial number places it somewhere around 1976, but I got it from the son who bought it for his recently (at the time 1978) widowed mother for home protection in this rural Virginia environment.

When she died a few years back this came up for sale on a consignment at a LGS who knows me and my like for Smith's. I wasn't to keen on another caliber either, but shoot...the price was real attractive and upon close examination all I could see on the cylinder face was three faint flash rings...indicating factory test only and unfired since then..still residing in the Bangor Punta box with all docs.

So as I was dickering with the LGS owner, offering my usual lowball out-of-the-gate, knowing he would have to contact the son...lo and behold....in walks the son, and tells me this back story and jumped on my offer so home she came.

I also snagged probably the last box of 32 S & W Long to be had in this area without going on line or special order. This gun, even in snubbie configuration is a hoot to shoot..recoil is like a pellet gun, the ladies love it.

I have to agree..........the 32 evidently is overlooked, and overshadowed by the bigger bores, but still a Smith and still a nice addition to the collection, and a real sweet shootin iron.

I definitely have the .32 disease. There's a gun store a few hours north of here that always has a few, and next weekend I anticipate I'll be getting another I frame.

Finally took my 4” 16-4 to Andy Horvath to have the cyl reamed to .327. Shot it with 5 grains of 231 with 2 different 100 gr hollow point bullets. Big powder flash from the bbl cyl gap so I will try some different powder. Larry

Wanting and owning 32's isn't a disease or addiction! It is an acquired taste, along the lines of fine wine! My affair with 32's goes back 40 years, to my first; a Walther PPk with Nazi police proofs. I have had and still have several top breaks, by just about everybody but S&W! I have had a 30-1, that my best friend's still uses. The cheap Davis derringer was made in 32, but not long or short, it was made in 32 ACP (I still have mine) I have the Tomcat 3032 and my pride and joy, My 1902 in 32-20! (the oldest/earliest K-32 is a 32 Long but in the 32-20 frame numbers!)

For reloading, I really like the discontinued Hornady 90 gr. LSWC over WW231, Unique or even Trail Boss. The 115gr LFP 32-20 bullet loaded in a 32 long case is the 32 Colt New Police load and shoots very well in all solid frame revolvers.

Absolutely! And maybe 3 ACP but the Semi-rim is thinner and you may or may not get light primer strikes.

I have a Model 731 Taurus Ti in .32H&Rmag. It shoots the .32acp without a misfire or problem.
I also have five (5) S&W 1903HE in .32L , a S&W 1896 in .32L and a few top break S&W's in .32S&W (sometimes referred to as the .32short)

I enjoy shooting the old guns and the .32 seems to have a natural accuracy. I would not however try shooting a .32acp in the prewar guns.
