Working a trade deal right now for a Springfield P9 that I just found on a local gun board.

If your looking for a good quality all steel single stack, check out the Kahr Mk9 and K9. This is my K9 and CZ Pro-Tek side by side.

I really like the CZ platform but I find the DA and even the SA reach a bit long on the 75B. The Compact, PCR and P01 fit be better.

I also am a big fan of the Swiss made, well used to be Swiss made, Sphinx SDP line. They are CZs on steroids. Many refer to them as CZ clones but they are really improved CZs IMHO. The Swiss guns right OTB are in line with CZ custom and Cajun Gun Works guns. Cajun used to work on them but stopped about 6 months ago because they were too tight and there were conflicts of interest with Kriss USA the importer of the Sphinx pistols. Sphinx has had money troubles so Kriss USA has taken over and has moved production to the US.

75B with Aluminum Slim Grips.

P01 with Aluminum Slim Grips.

Swiss Sphinx SDP

To the OP $450 is a fair price these days. Back when I started buying CZs you could still get them for $350 NIB. The P01 was the first CZ gun sold in the US that was more than $500 IIRC.

Les, I'm pretty sure any of the older 15 rd mags (including MecGar) will work in the 75B. The older Pragotrade Canadian imports I have no experience with. I also have not tried the current 16 rd factory mags but CZ ain't H&K when it comes to mags. Bring your gun to a show and try one there, buy if it seats without "extra effort." Joe

I had an Action Arms AT 84 a Swiss CZ75 copy available when they weren't. Well made and reliable, I sold it when I got my 2nd CZ 75 (sold it too unfortunately). Joe

From what I remember there are B and pre B mags. The older pre B are still around although not cheap. Brownells has them for $45 a pop.

the single stack Beretta M ........ 'feels" better in hand than a Compact with 13+1.........is it half the weight?? No just slightly better in hand.....

but for concealed carry a 3913 with Hogue grips.... can't be beat IMO.
Unfortunately, I'm not "up" on S&W 3rd Gens. Only held one, and it was a double stack that was too big and heavy for me.

When I said a single-stack needed to be "noticeably" lighter than my 14+1 compact PCR to make the trade off worthwhile, I mean like 4 ounces or more. For thickness, I'd like it to be "noticably" thinner than the PCR, closer to my 9mm Shield's thickness.

The Beretta has 6 rounds less and is heavier in the same size envelope as the PCR. The High-Power's I've seen are full frame.
And I've yet to see a 3rd Gen S&W that's lighter and leaner than my PCR with the DA/SA decocker and no safety that I want. I tried a SIG single-stack, but it also felt heavier than my double and felt as thick.

As for feel in the hand, the stock rubber CZ's are the best feeling grip I've tried. In fairness, the Browning and Beretta I tried wore wood.

Edit: to lend perspective, all this is to facilitate an easier carry IWB at 4 o'clock when driving, but I've carried the PCR that way for over a year. Just put it in the console for long drives.

Yes they do. I know that you can get them directly from CZ-USA. They are part # 11114, but they are $44 ea. Link below:

They may be available from other vendors, but I haven't checked them out recently.

I found it on line so it must be true.......................

FYI

Beretta 92 Type M; weights........ 30.9oz....(4.3" barrel 7.8"overall and 5.3 high) + 9rds of 9mm (147gr) 3.2oz = 34.1 oz total loaded weight

CZ PCR compact: weight 27.5oz (w/ a 3.8"barrel) + 15rds of 9mm (147gr) 5.03oz = ........ 32.53 oz total weight loaded.

Grips ........ wood grips tend to be the thickest; though some rubber grips give them a run for the money. That said grip shape plays a big role.... on the Beretta Type M the factory wood grips are very blocky and squared off ............. other aftermarket grips like the Farrar rubber grips are arched giving a palm swell and much thinner feel.

All that said I really like the Beretta Type M....... good feel with the Farrar's grips.... much like a Smith 39 IMO ........never had a failure in 23 years now........it is a bit big compared to my Smith 3913NL. I don't live in a War zone so I'm good with 8+1 and a spare mag. ....... or two.

That said I have a CZ 85D (steel frame) feels great in the hand..... good to go..... heavy like my Smith 5906............. but reminds me of a Browning HP grip..........

If I ever come across a CZ compact with a alloy frame I'll probably buy it.

I once posted that had CZs been readily available before I got so deep into the 3rd Gen Smiths...... I might be posting on the CZ forum instead of here!!!

FWIW...... double stack guns are not that much heavier than a single stack counter part.

Comparing the 3913 (8+1) to a 6906 (12+1)....... are only about a oz different in empty weight........ 25 vs 26 oz. (my 3913 goes about 27-28 oz loaded)

Grip thickness is 1.26 vs 1.06 inches.

As a comparison a full size steel frame 5906 weights in at 38.3 oz. and the CZ 75 is 35.2 oz.

I've heard very good things about the all metal Kahr's.

This is a photo of my CZ 75 B in satin nickel with one of its stable mates. The CZ now wears pair of VZ 320's in black and white and it feels even better in the hand!

Thanks for all the data. I'm not versed yet on 3rd Gen naming conventions, and I've only seen the one.

It's not the first time I've wished for things that are not made. But I'm happy that I finally found the CC action type that works best for me, after buying all the others first.

Now I just wait for that grail variation of it to enter production somewhere. In the meantime, I'm very happy with my PCR EDC.

Thanks to everyone who gave me input on these, i thought I would give the factory version a try, even though I've heard good things about some of the aftermarket versions.

I went ahead and followed the link above (CZ USA) and ordered one of these, part 11114. I read one of the reviews from a guy with a 1987 CZ-75. Like mine, this would be a "pre B", and he said it functioned flawlessly. Whenever I get it, I'll report back to the forum on quality and functionality.

Best Regards, Les

While not exactly rare, it is uncommon...

A CZ75 Compact P02 (safety only - no decocker)

...and big brother
