Saw the new Ruger 8-shot .357 today
As I was cruising thru a couple of my favorite LGS today I saw two of the new Ruger Redhawk 8-shot .357 snubbies. Interesting gun. Weighs a ton, which of course will make it much more pleasant to shoot than the S&W counterpart. Decent trigger. Mediocre fitting of the grips to the frame, especially on the front edge. I still think the S&W 627 Performance Center job is a lot more attractive. The Ruger is about $100 cheaper, which I am not sure is an issue for a $1,000 gun. I am not jumping in yet, but neither am I saying NO.

I didnt know they finally did an 8 shot. But from the sounds of it they are still refusing to look at other steel and keep casting. Whatever, that's why im not really interested in Ruger revolvers right now.
I agree with you, ill pay more for a 627, thanks.

This has been out for a couple months now (maybe more than a couple...?) and still absolutely NO sighting of an 8-shot .357 Redhawk in any longer (normal) barrel.
I don't get it. While I see the draw and the utility in a large frame 8-shot snub... I have zero interest in it. 5.5 or 6 or 7.5 inch barrel and now you have my attention.
I will guess they get there eventually but at this point... seems almost ludicrous. Just my opinion.

Yeah I'd pass. Nothing against Ruger but the SRH is freaking huge, to me; Neither am I interested in trying to carry an x frame for that matter. Given this, something about making a snubby on that frame seems completely counterintuitive. And unappealing in the extreme. To me. I'm sure some others will be turning cartwheels in the streets.

They went to the trouble and expense of getting them on the CA approved gun list so they think they will sell as a snubbie. Ruger does not, generally speaking, make stupid marketing decisions or bad guns.

Let me tell you about 357 magnum short barrel revolvers.
I have 2.
But the "flamethrower" is my Titanium blue 700 series 7 shot 357.
It kicks like the dickens, shoots flame 5 feet out of the barrel, and is ear ringing loud.
I expect a running perp would just stop and give up if he heard this and the whistling sound as the bullet by his head.
I don't carry it in the summer, but winter clothes cover it better.
Summer carry is my S/W model 60 357.

I also don't see the draw to revolvers holding more than the traditional 6rds. Call me old fashioned I guess. Don't really care for the look of them either. I must be old fashioned.
My personal opinion and preference doesn't matter though, and I'm sure plenty of people see value in these new creations.
As long as we are continuing the hobby and practicing our rights, that's what counts, and to each their own.

8 shot Ruger
That thing is a beast, and IMO not at all necessary. C'mon, what the heck is its purpose ? Does it come with a cart to haul it around ?? Rugers answer to the Desert Eagle .50 cal. pistol ??

I like Rugers, and will usually choose Ruger over Smith, but the Red Hawk is too big for what it is, the 627 is a work of art.
I like J frames and N frames, any thing in between is a Ruger.

I like the RedHawks. I have the ultimate RedHawks in 357mag and 41mag in 5 1/2" barrels. I want to look at the Redhawk with the 4.2" barrels. About the eight shot who knows.

I was trying to decide on the new Redhawk 8 shot or the 327NG and went with the S&W only because it just felt better in my hands,as I like both companies equally. I think it will be a winner for Ruger...just not for me at this time. I've owned a .44 Redhawk for about 30 years and it's one of my favorites.

I am not interested in the short barrel. It needs a 4-5" long barrel I think.
I wish they would bring their 6-shot .357 Redhawk back! MASSIVE amounts of steel around the chambers, something cool about that!
I also wish they'd bring out a dedicated .45 ACP Redhawk or something based on a smaller frame. The .45 ACP/.45 Colt Redhawks have developed a reputation for lackluster accuracy when shooting ACP rounds. They need their own version of the 625.

I am picking-up a 7.5 inch 357 Redhawk on Monday (finally found one locally). I expect it will shoot full-house Ruger only loads like a pu$$ycat. Used to have a 5.5 inch, and you are right, the meat on the cylinder is massive. Looks like a 22 cylinder when loaded.
