Default 20 Bore

Got the 'ol 20 bore single shot out today down to the crik:

Little Pardner I got cut down to an 18.5" barrel. Have the same setup in 12 bore but man does it thump! This thick-barreled 20 really tames down the kick, but it still potent!!

Was shootin' an old pie tin down there in the crik. I'll tell ya, thought I was shootin' all bird but twasn't so!! Just dumped by box of shells in my pocket and started a shootin'. Well some of them shells sure had more kick on to em!

So I shot this pie tin and saw some big holes! I says to myself "Self, them's some big holes for birshot!" and went back for the spent shell. Sure enough, Paw had done mixed in some buck with the bird!! Blew that durned tin to plum other side of the crik!

Had a lot of fun, guys. If you don't have a 20 bore single, get one!!

-Jay

I had one like that in 12ga when I was younger and had a bit more meat on my shoulders. These days I prefer 16ga and a PAST pad. A 20ga like that would be nice.

Sounds like Dad made his own version of "buck'n'ball" on a smaller scale.

Nope, factory! He just mixed in some Federal #3 buck shells with the normal birds! Man that's a nasty load and would do a number on a bandit!!

I kept an old Iver Johnson single 12, cut to 18.25", in the camper. Had a nylon 5 round cuff on the stock, and somebody before me added sling swivels. I kept it stocked with Federal Premium #4 Buck. Just a little something for camping! The pattern kept to the "Inch per Yard" rule too.

You tuck the butt stock under your armpit and you could swing 360's inside the camper!

That is almost exactly how I had mine, even the #4 buck.Only the sling was missing.
