Default Which 1911 to get

I recently purchased a Springfield TRP 1911/45ACP and love it. I am now thinking about getting a 1911 in 9mm.
Should I get another Springfield, maybe a S&W, Kimber, etc ?
What are you guys using and/or like or recommend?
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading.
Dan

I have the Ruger SR1911 Command 9mm. Love it. I also enjoy the Ruger SR1911 CMD A (.45 acp) and the Rock Island Model 1911-A1 CS compact (.45 acp).

The Ruger 9mm holds to the POA very well.

I've got a Springfield range officer in 9mm that's a favorite shooter. A 1911 and 9mm is a great combo.

I've had very good luck with Colt 1911s over many years. Generally, they'll shoot at least as well as anything else. They remain the standard in 1911s. They're the most desirable for resale and probably hold value better than copies.

In defense of copies, I've had a couple of Springfield Armory 1911s from the late-'80s to early-'90s that were as accurate as Colts; both pretty plain guns.

I am really impressed with a friend's new S & W - I can't remember the series number but it is SS, all the buzzers whistles & bells but fixed sights - Novak I think - the thing is flawless and is incredibly accurate.

I'm with rockquarry on this one.
Colt for me.
Accurate, well put together, and price was right.

Last year I bought a used FS RIA TAC II in 9mm and have been very satisfied. I mainly wanted to try out a 1911 in 9mm and thought this would be good for that. It is much better than I expected and I see no need to upgrade.

At this point all my 1911's are Colts. I've owned a variety of other makes, but have scaled back to the Colts. All my 1911's have been either .45ACP or .38 Super.

If I was going to get a 9mm 1911 I'd get one of the new Colt Competitions. I have a Competition Stainless in .38 Super and have been very impressed. The 9mm version should work just as well.

There are many good 1911 brands around. I will say there is something special about a Colt though. I think every 1911 owner should have a proper Colt at some point. If I were looking for a new 9mm 1911 I would look at the Colt Commander or Combat Commander, they look great.

I have one (blued-9mm). It's a range favorite. Pretty good set-up for the money right out of the box.

I don't have a 1911 in 9mm but looking. I do have a RI in.45 and my favorite carry piece, a Colt pocketlite in .380.

Well, if you just have to defile the classic 1911 to be 9mm, you already have your answer.
Springfield Armory.

If it's a 9mm you want, look into a Browning High Power.

I have a RIA Tactical I in 9mm. It is quite a nice gun. Have a Tactical II in .40 and it shoots well. (commander) Own a Sig, and a S&W, so have shot higher quality 1911's. Bob

If we're talking about a full-size frame then hands down another vote for the Colt Competition 9mm.

When asked which 1911 to get, I usually ask how much they want to spend. This can help narrow down the choice from the plethora of brands/models available, same goes for AR's.

I have a S&W pro, SA RO and a RIA Ultra in 9mm. All are good shooters and nice in their own way. I gravitate towards the SA the most though.

That said, I have a Sig Traditional Match Elite in 40 /357 sig that is very sweet! I'd get another in 9mm but struggle to justify another. It is definitely worth a look though.

I ordered an ATI Firepower Xtreme: Military 1911, 7+1 .45, 5" barrel. It should arrive tomorrow or Friday. I heard nothing bad about the ATI's. I just wanted a .45 semi-auto. Except for my G42 pocket gun, all my others are revolvers. The real ones are S&W model 10-8 4", and S&W K22 Masterpiece. A coaster from a bar are plenty big enough targets for these! I just want to see how a 1911 .45 is to shoot, cheap gun, good reviews. Watch out you Wiley sheets of defenseless pieces of paper! (I was going to get the RIA, but ATI has similar reviews and about $50 less; plus it's a little bigger, full size.) Good luck, nc9tango. Jeff Taylor, Pittsburgh, PA.

All of my 1911s are .45ACP but I would also like to have one n 9mm. I am leaning towards a 5" SA Range Officer.

I currently have two Springfields, an Ultra Compact and an MC Operator. The Operator is one of the most accurate handguns that I have ever owned.

I also have a Colt Series 80 stainless Government, a Colt Commander, and a first series Kimber Custom.

My 1911 is an Ithaca that was packed for shipping to the Augusta Ordanance depot on December 7, 1943.

I like it. YMMV

I bought a Rock Island 1911 Commander .45 for $345 shipped and I'm with the others that feel it's the only caliber for a 1911. It's an excellent gun with great feeling trigger and controls and quite accurate and it's so cheap go ahead and get one in whatever caliber you want.

This makes the most sense to me as well. While I understand why some folks like the 1911 in 9mm, I think the 1911 is best suited to those big and long cartridges that the platform was designed around - .45, .38, and even 10mm. The Browning packs 13 of those little 9mm rounds into a very slim single action platform. It almost feels like a single stack - nothing like the Beretta/Sig/Smith double stack feel.

Default Springfield EMP4

A few days ago I bid on a Springfield Armory Model 1911 EMP4 on gun broker, then sobered up and allowed myself to be outbid. The Springfield is scaled to the smaller cartridge and Springfield is selling all they can make. What put me off was: based upon the reviews, the slide on this gun was the same thickness as those chambered in .45 ACP.

Personal preference aside, it's hard to fault the Springfield. The used gun broker Springfield sold for $755.00.

Reread posts 4, 6, 8, 11, 12, 13, and 19. Also, there may come a place in the future you need to sell it. The brand in those posts always has the best return on "Buy In".
