Manhatten Pepperbox Revolver
I picked this up last week end. It was found in an attic of home in Pennsylvania by the sister of a Union Soldier who was captured at the battle of Cold Harbor and died while imprisoned at Andersonville. It has been in the family since then and I am presently getting the documentation notarized by the family.
The gun itself was never involved in the Civil War and remains in very nice condition. 31 caliber made in the 1850s.
And no, I didn't shoot my old buddy Lucky.

Very nice for a black powder firearm due to the corrosive nature of black powder you just don't see many in that good of shape.

What length are the barrels ? The 6 shot 31's were made in 3 , 4 and 5 inch length's with the 5 inch being the rarest.
Stackpole Classic Gun Books has a nice reference book "Manhatten Firearms" by Waldo E. Nutter, (I found it on Amazon) That gives the Manhatten story and details on it's firearms.
I have a 36 cal. series V revolver.
Your pepper box appears to be in excellent condition...Nice Find !

Wow that's an oldie but goodie there. Very nice stocks and the scroll work engraving is minimal but adds a nice touch. Good find!
