Default Who knows about H&R 22 Revolvers?

I have a weak spot for old guns, and yesterday I found one that I've been hoping would pop up at an LGS: the H&R 926.

I haven't picked it up yet, but in feeling the action out in the shop last night, I am assuming that the plastic piece on the end of the mainspring guide rod was broken, as the DA trigger pull was way too light. It's either that, or someone has messed with the mainspring a bit. I still want the gun, and I know I can order a new mainspring assembly (even available in a six-pack from Numrich) with the plastic end piece, however I want to replace the assembly with one that is solid steel. H&R genuine and reproductions seem to be scarce, and waaaaaay overpriced, however in looking online there is a company in the Midwest that makes solid steel replacement rods, just of a different design. These seem to be CNC milled out of a solid piece of steel rather, and then have a roll pin inserted through the top to account for the loss in material thickness (I guess?).

So my real question is, does anyone have a link to the genuine part, or original design reproduction pieces? Else, has anyone ordered the reproduction mainspring guide described above? If so, how did it work out?

My revolver had light strikes, plastic part was shattered. I ordered the replacement with the metal head from Numrich. Was not hard to install, test fired fine, locking up action after one shot. I removed the assembly carefully, Numrich spring way less quality than the factory, so figured a way to compress the old spring back on the new shaft, re-pinned it, reinstalled. Now it fires perfect, cycles perfect.

Default Funny....

My sister was getting some guns of her former husband's out of the house and I've got an H&R (III I think) 9 shot .22 in good working condition that I'm thinking about selling. I did see where some parts are available on Gunbroker as well as a couple of 'parts' guns.

I like how the whole cylinder pops out. Much easier loading IF you don't lose the pin.

So I picked the 926 up this evening after work, and as I had suspected, the plastic part on the mainspring guide was indeed broken. I went ahead and ordered a replacement, and because I never want to have to deal with this again, I ordered a steel mainspring guide offered by Jack First Gun Parts, which is of a slightly different design from the original. This guide is a solid piece of tool steel with a roll pin through it. Ol777gunnerz review of the quality level of the reproduction part from Numrich had me worried, especially considering that the steel assembly is not available, only the plastic one. This is still an option should the Jack First part not function properly. A link to the part I ordered is below if anyone is interested:

H&R .22 revolver steel mainspring rod, replaces rod with broken plasti – Jack First Gun Parts

I can't wait to get this thing up and running again. It appears to be well cared for, not mint, but I'd say about 80 to 85% condition with minor scratches, and few dings in the wood grips. She still looks nice however, and despite having top-quality S&W 22 revolvers, there's just something alluring about these old top-break H&Rs. Hopefully she shoots as good as she looks. I will add photos when I can.

EDIT: Photos!
