Default Colt saa gen 3

Just put a 2001 colt saa on layaway. Not very knowledgeable on colts. It is from 2001 5 1/2 in barrel.Gunstore owner said it is from estate of a friend. It is unfired and has box and book.I have several Ruger single actions never thought I would have a colt
Just wondering what other members here thought of 999.00?I just do not know colt prices.

Congratulations! That's a good price on a Colt SAA, in the condition you described. They are getting more expensive and harder to find. Is it a 45 Colt caliber?

Thumbs up Colt Price

I have one made the same year as yours and I will say it is a very well made gun. You also got a super deal. Most of the them in my area are going for $1400.00 to $1700.00 if you can find one. Way to go!!

That is a heck of a deal, especially with box and papers. I paid just under $1300 shipped and transferred for my 3rd gen which is in excellent condition.

A great price for a nice S.A.A. the 5 1/2" models are a nice compromise for the range and holster carry.

That's a great price. An on-line retailer just had some for $2500 and sold out.

You may want to check the label though. It could be the cheaper Cowboy model that is different then the model P. (Still a good price if it is).

As pointed out if it is a true SAA and not a cowboy you got a steal.n If it is a cowboy you paid about market rate or a tad more. If you have a picture that would help clarify. Good luck.

Here are mine one is a 2014 the other from 1979.

Thanks for all the kind words and advice.I said I don't know very much about colts and that is very true.I have heard of the cowboy before but never thought of it.It was marked saa and the receipt was marked Colt single action army. But I am going back tue when they reopen to look at it.The guys that run that lgs are young vets. And do not know much about revolvers. It could be marked wrong and I did not notice.

The Cowboy will be identical in size and color as a true SAA, the only real difference that you will be able to see is whether it has a transfer bar. If it has a transfer bar then it is a Cowboy. If not you are good to go with a steal on a SAA. Good luck and post up those pictures.

Also the manual will be light blue and say "Colt Cowboy".

If the manual is missing it should say Colt Cowboy .45 Colt on the left side of the barrel. Here is a picture of one and a picture of what the transfer bar will look like in comparison to a true SAA. Also there won't be a firing pin on the hammer. There are a couple of other nuanced differences in the two but with the basic differences described you should be able to tell right away what you have. Hopefully yours will be the true SAA....all the best and let us inquiring minds know.

No worries. I just did the same thing here last week in the "For Sell" section. Someone posted a Cowboy at a good price and I was thinking it was a model P. After agreeing to buy it, I had to back out.

I still think it was a decent deal for the Cowboy you were going to buy.

I had a pair of Colt Cowboys and wasn't the least bit impressed with them. The fit and finish wasn't up to par with any of my Colt SAAs or USFAs. I thought I would use them for CAS but I ended up selling them and using a pair of USFAs instead. I believe you did the right thing by backing out of the deal. You'll just have to keep looking and I'm sure you will be able to find a decent example that you'll be able to enjoy. By the way, I shoot all of my SAAs and they're probably my favorite type of revolver to shoot. Something about that old plowhandle that just feels right in my hand.
