Default Not a Colt but....

at $325, I couldn't pass it up. This is a 1994 (BD date code) ASM imported by EMF and is their Hartford CT model. Other than a few scuff marks where it looks like it was dropped on concrete, it looks new. I've read these are the closest copy to a true Colt.
I bought this at a gun range that also has a shop, so I was able to put a few range rounds through it. It seemed to shoot to the right, but it might have been me. After paying for the overpriced range ammo, I was motivated to get into the garage this morning and load up some of my own cases.

Great looking SAA. A lot of these imports make very nice shooters.

Does it have the two lock positions on the center pin?
Some of the imports used a second rearward position that locked the pin protruding a short distance out the back of the frame. That way the hammer couldn't fall all the way down and was considered a 'safety' for import reasons.

I don't know how many of those had the two-position base pin to hold the hammer back. The only one I am aware of was the Virginian Dragoon, which was made in the USA for awhile, and earlier, by Hammerli in Switzerland. They called it the "Swissafe."

Very nice.

" I've read these are the closest copy to a true Colt."

The single actions built by USFA were the closest copy and most of them were better than some of the early 3rd generation Colt SAAs.

I bought a 1980 .44 Special New Frontier. The action was rough as a cob. About 2006, I bought a .44 Special USFA single action. The USFA is as good or better than a 2nd Gen SAA that belongs to a friend of mine.

Yeah, it's not a Colt.

But if I had just spent $325 on that, I'd be extremely happy! That's a great looking gun!

Next, we'll need a range report!

That is a sharp looking gun as nice as many Colts I have seen. Heck of a price on it. I would be grabbing my wallet if I saw one like that.

Is the company still in business and are they still making these guns?

IIRC from my research, they became another company or were bought out in the early 2000's. Quality went down hill towards the end and EMF (the importer) went to Uberti or Pietta. I also read this was EMF's higher end gun and have seen others for sell in the $600 range.

I think I got one of the nicer ones.

Armi San Marco in my opinion made better SAA replicas than Uberti, at least back in the 1990s when I was into these for a while. I think they actually produced the parts for the modern blackpowder Colts sold by Colt under their name at one time, but that may be scuttlebutt.

I owned a couple ASM revolvers. One of them in particular, a replica of the 7.5 inch early cavalry model complete with donut-shaped ejector knob and inspector cartouches on the stocks, was of outstanding quality.

I did find one of these in an auction and it was around $500. The EMF site lists some similar guns for around $900 but they had none of these listed. Probably because like you said above the company got bought out and so did the quality.
You had a great find there at just as great a price.
