Default Kudos to Ruger

So much has been written (here and elsewhere) on Ruger's "black eye" safety recall on their new MK IV rimfire pistols. I won't rehash how it happened. It just did. However, I'd like to give credit where credit is due. In my case, I had two MK IV's that needed to have the frame returned. Once I recieved confirmation of my registered serial numbers, it took about 3 weeks to get the prepaid postage box and (good) instructions on how to proceed.
Since I had already done trigger jobs on both guns ( using Volquartsen parts,) I needed to strip those parts out before sending the frames in or risk loosing them. As an aside, instead of rebuilding the frame assembly with my factory parts, I just sent them all in a zip lock bag. I wasn't trying to be a wise guy, I just figured it saved as both some time/work.
Long story short. I got both frames back yesterday, fully assembled and within 9 days of dropping them in the mail. Both were in as new condition and included a free mag. Additionally, it seems I had mistakenly included a aftermarket mag disconnect cancelling bushing in the parts. Surprisingly, it was gracefully returned .
I'd just like to acknowledge Ruger for their well orchestrated response to a bad situation. I honestly can't imagine it going any smoother or faster.

p.s. I'd also like to recognize/thank Volquartsen in this process. Since the new factory mods to the Ruger MK IV's affected their sear fitment, Volquartsen modified both of their sears, at no charge despite not having any liability in Rugers changed design. This was accomplished with a week and with only a $6 return shipping fee.

Good news on getting both of them back! I was concerned that a ten-thumbed person would work on, and scratch, my unfired MK IV. Fortunately, I was wrong (again ... ) and I couldn't find a mark (pun intended) on it after they returned it. I'm sure it cost them a pretty penny but they did it right.

I recently got my new stainless Mark IV Target lower back from Ruger for the fix. It took just over a week from mailing it out to getting it back, and the free magazine was a nice "sorry for the inconvenience" gift. I've had nothing but good dealings with Ruger.

It took well over a month to get my box, but once I did the gun was back in 1 week. Very fast turnaround. They are handling their recall nicely... unlike some companies (SIG).

Interesting that the volquartsen kit wouldn't work with the safety upgrade. I imagine there will be many surprised to find out their kit will not work when they try to reinstall it after getting the gun back from Ruger.

Did you find this out when you tried reinstalling the kit?

To be clear, Volquartsen said early on after the recall that "the sear needed to be modified to work properly" . I took the opportunity to send the frames to Ruger and the sears to Volquartsen the same week so I never had the opportunity to tinker/mix. I have no idea what they did to them but they look the same to me. Whatever it was, it was minor.

I have been a Ruger MK I/II/III fan for 40+ years. When the new MK IV's came out, I "needed" one for my shooting collection. The first through our shop were the Target models. Although I liked the aesthetics of the stainless Target, the blued model was a full 7 oz lighter (due to it's aluminum frame). The blued one felt "right" and went home with me. FWIW, I believe Ruger really did it right with this new series. Not only is the quick takedown a blessing to most, the loss of the loaded chamber indicator and addition of the mag ejector as well as up sizing it's controls really are worthwhile improvements IMHO. Fit and finish is great too. The ONLY downside I see to the MK IV's is that they no longer come with a Optics base (although still drilled and tapped) and the factory triggers seem to have more creep. Both are easily cured though.
